About 25% of that roster was there a few years later. They also added Malkin, Staal, and Letang to that roster.
Our roster is supposedly mostly "set" - sbroads24

Our roster is mostly set? Not even close. The Core right now as I see it:
Risto
Ror
Jack
Skunk
Girgs
Kane
All other spots are up for grabs, yet to be seen, not set in stone, nebulous, tenuous, etc. |

I don't think our roster is mostly set. 2 or 3 of top 6 are needed.
3 or 4 of bottom 6 needed
Top pairing D, and likely a 6th D.
That isn't mostly set

3rds have to have a run for 3 years, I believe. The winter classic would make most sense in 2018 so for them to do that and the 50th anniversary they'd have to put the 3rd out a year before the classic. - Zschalberg
The winter classic jersey can be just for a once game thing like they are doing now.
A third comes out next year and they come out with a winter classic one as well |

Top pairing D is IMO going to be the hardest to acquire. |

Yep, quoting myself...
In for long haul
ROR
Kane

Eichel
Risto
Likely in for long haul
Pysyk

Bogo
Questionable
Ennis
McGinn
lehner
Deslaurie
Foligno
Out soon
Gionta
Weber
Legwan
Out as soon as can be
Moulson
I'm sure I missed a few, but the point is a fair number of players will be turned over soon. |

I agree.
That is why if they pick 1st or 2nd the D chrychurn (sp?) makes a ton of sense.
Get the sniper through a trade or FA (yes it still cost a lot) |

Florida finished dead last in 12-13. They're pretty good now. It's all up to Murray. He needs to nail this thing. - Buffalo--Sabres
They also drafted:
3rd overall in 2010
3rd overall in 2011
23rd overall in 2012 which looks like an anomaly to me
2nd overall in 2013
1st overall in 2014
Then they drafted 11th last year. They have now continued to trend upwards in year 5 since bottoming out. They have an elite goaltender too.
I would like another top 5 pick |

Yeah that was the year they caught fire and made the playoffs and almost knocked off the Devils who went to the Cup finals.
Edit: Just looked, they won the division with 94 points. 4th-8th had 108, 103, 102, 92, 92 points respectively. Although I'd still take that over this bullpoop we have now. |

Yeah, I don't think there's any set amount of time. They have to use them in a certain number of games during the season, but I don't think they have to have them for X number of seasons. That one that said "Buffalo" across the front, and that Frankenstein blue/yellow thing we had were each only one or two years.
Edit: Slug and Frankenstein were both 2 years only. "Buffalo" was for 3. I think it just seems like longer because they were horrific, but I was one of the first people I know to buy the slug.

If we draft top 5 this year, including the additions murray made in kane and oreilly i would then expect a continual upward trend. Tough to compare with florida though, luongo fell right back into their laps and jagr has been invaluable to them. I bet luongo adds 5 wins on the sabres so far this season and no one would be complaining. |

If I had the money, I'd pay for his buyout today. Guy is always out of position, can't clear guys out from in front of the net, can't handle the puck, has no shot and takes bad penalties. I'm sure his leadership helps, but |

We have no one to replace him at the moment. At least no one that can handle top pairing duties on the left side |
