It's not like VL wants out for no reason -- (right or wrong) the team refuses to give him an opportunity and life is miserable for him.
Imagine the slippery slope that could become. - Tomahawk
He dressed in a bunch of games last year.
He has dressed in some games this year. They've given him opportunities.
He's all talk. He knows he can't play anymore. What is he supposed to say? |

RH: I'm going to poop in your mouth unless you terminate?
VL: You're going to WHAT!?
RH: I'm gonna poop in your mouth. I will defecate on your face. - jmatchett383
RH: Listen, Vinny, why dont you do us a solid and just terminate.
VL: Listen, Ronny, no!
RH: Okay, you have left me with no choice...
VL: Is that a threat?
RH: Hey Paul can you come here for a moment?
PH: Did you call me Ron?
RH: Yea, why did you sign this guy again?
PH: Pretty sure that was Bob Clarke. I have memory issues post bicycle accident, but even I am not dumb enough to sign that shlub.
VL: Guys, I am still here.
BC: Whoa, I only signed good washed up players.
VL: (frank) it, I quit.
RH: Thanks for being a good sport Vinny, too bad your not any good at this sport.

and he's not risking his health so he has no reason to retire
if we put him on the ice and let him beat up his body he might figure his well-being is more important than the money |

Teams refuse to give players an opportunity on a regular basis. If life is miserable for him, then he has an out.
Secondly, mutual termination is an option written into the CBA. Which is a collective bargaining agreement between the NHLPA, and the league |

RH: Vinny, why don't you terminate?
VL: For the last time, I OW! What the hell was that?
RH: What was what?
VL: You hit me with a crowbar you son, OW! Stop that?
RH: Stop what?
VL: Ron, if you, OW! God dammit! (hits Hextall)
RH: Vinny, since you attacked a member of this front office, I have no choice but to terminate your employment.
VL: You hit me first, with a crowbar.
PH: No he didn't. |

If I were Hextall ( and I would assume talks like these have already taken place) I would let him know that we have no intentions of buying him out, and that he will never be an every day player for them again. They have a different direction they are looking to go and want to get the younger guys more experience.
Pretty much let him know, if you have any desire to play at all again, you better think about terminating - jak521
The problem is that they cant say that. Vinny has a guaranteed place on the roster. So given injuries, he could still play. |

Sure he can. He could still play, but Hextall could come out and said that they will never play him again. He still gets paid and stays on the roster. It would be a harsh thing to do, though. |

There is no precedence for that kind of out, tho. |

FWIW:
•Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Vincent Lecavalier is still hopeful that the Flyers will be able to trade him before his career is over. He hasn’t played since November 15th.
“It’s obviously been tough,” Lecavalier said. “But at the same time, I’m not going to the rink pissed off every day. I mean, I’m not playing, there’s nothing else you need to say. The only thing I can control is just how hard I practice and how ready I am for when either I come back into the lineup or if something happens with a trade or something like that.”
It’s in the best interest of the Flyers if they can move on from Lecavalier. Lecavalier has two years left at a $4.5 million cap hit ($3 million salary), which is scaring teams. LeBrun thinks that if a trade can’t be worked out, Lecavalier and his agent Kent Hughes could consider terminating his contract (similar to what Alex Semin did earlier this year) and hope to sign a team at a reduced salary.
“The only chance he has is to take a big pay cut and become a good third- or fourth-line player,” said one Western Conference NHL scout via text Tuesday.

Who cares what Hextall tells him? He isnt dumb and neither is his agent....they know that under certain situations the Flyers have to play him. What would be awesome is if they dressed 8 defensemen over him |

Sure they can say that. Nothing wrong with it, and it's being honest with the player. That doesn't violate his player rights, or his contract in any way. |

I'm just saying, Hexy can say whatever he wants.
Now, if they decided to dress 19 players instead of him, THEN they wouldn't need to say a word. |
