The Blackhawks lose a key player every offseason yet they plug another player in and he's just as good lose Brandon Saad sign Panarin and he outperforms him
They are officially the Patriots of the NHL |

Dave Davis @DaveDavisHockey
Per @FriedgeHNIC , the Kings had been talking to the Sabres about Josh Gorges prior to the Luke Schenn deal.
Maybe there is hope to get this guy off the team |

Gorges would be fine if he didn't play top pairing minutes. He has value. |

I said at the end special ones they're rare - gerbe75pts
Not as rare as you'd think. There was an article looking back at the last 10 years, and defensemen taken in the top 5 were far and away the safest players to take in terms of games played and points over other positions at the same spot. I wish I could find it again, it was a good read. If you draft a defenseman in the top 5 you're getting a really good player. I think the Johansen Jones is the perfect deal. Need for need. |
|
|
|
The value on the Columbus/Nashville deal is fairly even, but as far as who will benefit more? Nashville by far. Nashville has great defensive depth, they should be fine without Jones. Columbus doesn't really have anyone to replace Johansen, unless they plan on getting Matthews. |

I hate drafting defensemen in the top 5 the point of it is that the defenseman takes so long to develop into that elite player that you want.. and then you waste all that time and then he ends up not being that elite player
But Nashville won that trade hands down Ryan Johansson's going to be the number one center down there and I would not be surprised if he is Tyler Seguin 2.0 |

I agree. Johansen is a perfect fit in Nashville.
Columbus has no identity at this point.
Preds still have Josi, Weber, Ekholm and Ellis.
Mayne they will take back Franson a 3rd time |

Let's be honest the All Star game is just a stupid joke like I don't even get the point of calling it a all star game ?? I think it's honestly stupid that everyone from each team makes it |

When you have 2 of the top 10 players in the league you can keep plugging in guys like that and they can feed off of those guys.
Remember everyone thought Sharp was done and him playing with those two in Dallas has kept his career from turning Matt Moulson like. |

Is it a secret?
I secretly would prefer Chychrun - JCSabs06
He'd be GREAT...
But Matthews is the clear stud in this draft
I actually think he's right on par with Eichel & McDavid
Wasn't an accident that he broke Pat Kane's records last year
He was quite the stud in the World Juniors too |

I mostly agree too, but I disagreed with the people that were acting like he was already better than Eichel/if he was in last years draft it would be more McDavid and Matthews and less Eichel |

Have you ever seen the beyond blue and gold on it?
Buffalo was on pins and needles waiting to get him the entire 1--7 picks.
..also great scouting by the cats on barkov imo could be a kopitar type - yen6d1
Barkov was my top player in that draft
Loved that Ristolainen fell to us |

Matthews still would've gone 3rd
But he's a heck of a talent
Our forwards would be really stacked of we got him |

Everyone knew Nashville was going to take him remember this is the same guy that everyone said was going to go first overall to 2nd and then he went forth
This is the number one reason why I will never draft a defenseman 1st or 2nd overall I don't care they take too long to develop and you only hit on a special one sometimes - gerbe75pts
I'll bet Tampa wishes they took him 3rd |

While he's pretty solid, Jones has underwhelmed too.
He has 1 goal and 11 points in 40 games. |
