I think Weber has been pretty decent this year actually
Assuming we don't get Matthews,
Who would u hope to get in the draft? - jdfitz77
Puljujarvi. Winger for Eichel that can keep up and snipe. Go defense in the 2nd round, offense with our 3rds, and then a goalie in the later rounds. |

For those that had mentioned Lucic, he of the cement skates, pass all day long on him and what will be his inflated salary. No thank you. |

All this talk about "tanking".
Well, I stand and applaud the NHL for creating the concept that they have now to try and prevent teams from deliberately "tanking".
Now you could pick all the way at the 4th spot and I like it very much so.
More professional sports leagues should begin to seriously look at putting the same type of systems in place when it comes to their own particular drafts.
Deliberate losers should not be awarded, they should be laughed at and I laughed at Murray last year when he lost the 1st pick, McDavid, who will IMO turn out to be the best player in last years entry draft by far.
If Murray deliberately "tanks" again this year I hope karma visits again and gives Murray the 4th pick.
Sucks when you have a General Manager that apparently only knows how to build a "winner" by purposely losing to draft high because he has shown already that his trade skills resemble something that I flushed down my toilet at 6 AM this morning.

Two guys I'm so disappointed in and I know Rochester sucks but I thought these guys would stand out - gerbe75pts
No center, rookie year in the pros, and are on a bad team. Bailey has started to come around. Had his first 2 goal game last week. Baptiste has jets for skate. Hopefully their output is more a product of their team and their adjustment than their skill level |

I don't think we are, or need to purposely tank this year. If it happens, it happens. If we do get the 4th pick, that's still the leftovers of Matthews, Puljujarvi, Laine, Chychryn.
I also like the lottery, however. |

Powerball will most likely be close to $800 million by Saturday. |

I tend to wonder what another GM might have done if was in GMTMs position. Prolly would get the same ridicule. |

I did one of those office group pool things for the one last night. First time I've ever bought a ticket, and that was only to prevent myself from being that one guy that didn't get in and somehow it turned into a winner.
My brother contends that when the prize is this high, you almost have a moral obligation to buy at least one ticket if you have a family. - buffalofan19
I bought one yesterday.
That isn't the norm for me either. |

They made this happen. Changed the lottery so that the odds would go way up. Higher odds means less winners. Money still looks the same so people buy.
That said, I bought a ticket and I'll buy another one Saturday. If by some dumb luck I'm that dumb guy who gets it then hey you never know. Sabres were sold to Pegula for what, 100 Million? Coyotes shouldn't cost more than 70. Move them to Seattle, ???, Profit. |

I don't think they would. Teams not in the hunt sell off parts every year. They don't sell them for pennies on the dollar like we did last trade deadline, but they do sell. We didn't hear about tanking being an issue until Murray did it blatantly.
Still, there's no need to tank this year. Just let the team do its thing. We'll be picking high just by our play. |

Per http://www.forbes.com/nhl...uations/list/#tab:overall
Florida is the lowest at 186M. New plan, no one win Saturday, we win next Wednesday. Get the billion, that'll give us enough after taxes for this plan. - Zschalberg
After taxes you're looking st 550-625 mil.
I'd still pass on majority ownership.
Some sort of minority ownership could be possible. |

I will say, I'm surprised they're worth that much. Sabres were 100% sold to Pegula in 2011 for 165 Million. I know the NHL has been making money and that big TV contract helped, but now the Sabres are worth 300M. Nearly doubled their worth in 5 years. |

I highly doubt the Board of Governors would approve that kind of ownership anyway. They do background checks, due diligence, etc. |

Interesting tidbit from the forbes article about the Sabres:
Prices are up 27% since Terry Pegula purchased the Sabres in 2011.
27 percent and 1 trip to the playoffs. I knew they kept going up but wow. However:
A clause in the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement gives the team incentive to continually raise its prices because it dictates that teams that receive revenue sharing must keep pace with the league’s average ticket price.
I get it, they did it to get the league's money, but still, 27%. |
