Why can't you? Makes a lot sense to me

Ryan Johansen is a top 6 center, 23, taken 4th overall, and has put up two 60+ point seasons on an average Columbus team

Seth Jones is a top 3 defenseman, 21, taken 4th overall, and has put up modest numbers as a young defenseman.

Seems like a sensible request by Columbus to at least include Jones. Johansen is also under contract next year as well for... $4m/year and Jones is a RFA after this season...

Agreed....this deal makes sense for Nashville ....huge...and not sure what young star could make this Happen, but Jones fits the bill.

Notice how Wilson played his ass off last night? He wants to stay in Nsshville. We had high hopes for him being our franchise number one center. Legwand was never able to be that guy and that was disappointing, but Wilson has been even more disappointing. I've always like Wilson and I've always been hoping/rooting for him, but this should be his prime time and he's not making it happen.

We love Seth Jones, but honestly, we can make it without him, plus it's a bit of a disservice having him play with Jackman. He deserves top pairing minutes. The fact is that we can't afford to pay both him and Forberg the salaries they'll be commanding.

We need a top line center and we need to bolster our third line. Granberg is a right-handed defenseman. He can hold his own with Jackman. Another defenseman acquisition might be necessary before the deadline Granberg can't cut it.

Forsberg Johansen Neal
Smith Ribiero Jarnkrok
Hartnell Fisher Nystrom
Bourque Gaustad Salomakki

Weber Josi
Ellis Ekholm
Granberg Jackman

Rinne
Hutton

Hodgson
Arvidsson
Watson
Bartley
Bitetto

The deal certainly makes sense for Nashville. It would fill two needs - a #1 Center, and a gritty veteran forward who can actually put up some points. $5Mil per for Hartnell is a little steep, but the Preds have cap space.

I'd hate to see Jones go, but he's not a top pair D-man in Nashville. Not unless Weber is gone.

Gonna take some heat for this... but the Preds should trade Weber. He's the oldest of their main D-men, and would fetch the biggest return at this moment. Plus the end of that contract is likely gonna get ugly...

No one wants his contract. If he did fetch more, I would agree he is the one to trade.

seems more about the need to allocate salary from defence to forward to create a more balanced team.

Doubt another team wants to take on that contract unless the return is significantly reduced.

He's signed for 10. More. Years. at barely under $8M/per.

Nobody is taking 10 more years of a guy who is already 30, at that price.

Jones is a top 4 capable RHD and plays behind Weber and Ellis in the lineup so it makes sense to get a legit top 6 C if that remains their lineup.

Well 5mil for hartnell and what's johanson? Top line center get ya close to 8-9 mil maybe top end? That will certainly move the money around....though I doubt they'd ever pay jones 14 mil a year. Either way you slice it. They are taking on a lot more money.
