from earlier today
http://www.broadstreethoc...n-to-terminating-contract
The truly interesting news came directly from LeBrun, who provided a theory that to this point had been limited to wishful thinking from the blogosphere.
My sense is Lecavalier’s agent, Kent Hughes, has made it clear to teams that if they took a chance on his client, an effort would be made to ensure those final two years on the deal wouldn't hang over the club in one form or another.
This isn’t about money for Lecavalier; it’s about wanting to prove he’s still got some hockey left in him, even if in some smaller role. - Tumbleweed
I thought you meant he would retire right away, which at that point the league might step in and void the deal, or could they? I don't know, kinda tricky |

i hope all the people that thought the Flyers would have to give up a high pick or good prospect on top of retaining salary with Vinny to get rid of him come on here and admit they were wrong!! Weal and a 3rd pick to boot!!! great deal philly |

my best guess is Vinny gets one last kick at the can with LA through the playoffs.
Maybe they bonus him out on a July 1 for his $500k owing.
he then retires or they mutually terminate the contract. vinny leaves $5.5M on the table, but leaves the game with dignity. |

I knew they would have to retain salary, but didn't think it would be as high as 50% |

Do you mean the same league that placed a man in the HOF and then watched him get traded to another team. |

Philly eating the 50% is nothing. Moving those two lumps is ... AND getting a pick and Weal?
The cops will be at Hexy's door soon to arrest him for theft. |

50% is great because it clearly maximized return and after this season all of the retained salary will be off the books. The Flyers save 2.25 million on a player they were actually trying to NOT play and save 4.5 million for the 2 years remaining on the deal.
This is seriously highway robbery. It is incredible |
