That's an unprotected 1st rounder they gave up too. - Sabresfan-365
Here's the thing. Goaltending is important, but there's a limit to how much you should be willing to spend on it.
To be quite honest though, I'm fairly certain that had we not given up that 1st rounder for Lehner, it would have been a requirement by Colorado in the O'Reilly trade. So I'm totally comfortable in just dealing with the fact that we were never going to be making that pick anyway.

I comprehended. He hasn't played much. So I don't know if he's good or not. So I'd like to watch him play. I'll be at the game on Friday in Rochester to do so.
Is there a goalie you'd like us to pick up in his stead or no? - Zschalberg
I'm interested to see what ends up happening out in Anaheim.
And I am also interested to see what Cal Peterson is going to be able to do in the near future.
He is getting better every year as his numbers show.
Last season - 33 games 2.51 gaa and .919 sv%
This season - 19 games 2.28 gaa and .926 sv%.
Fun Fact about Lehner, since this thread is dying, his father used to help coach Lundqvist. He would use Lehner as a guinea pig for what he would teach Henrik. Thought it was interesting.

There's 6 guys in the pipe overall. Ullmark, Makarov, Lieuwen, Petersen, Kasdorf, Johansson. So even if Lehner ends up a complete mess, the chance that you hit on one of them isn't exactly terrible. There's 6. One is bound to work out, IMO.

Peterson is one I've got my eyes on. I worry about college guys, though. I know it's decent competition I just wish he'd go to the AHL instead. Baker said today Peterson is in his top 3 as far as who he thinks will have an impact.

He'll go to the AHL, once he's done in college. That's the typical course for any NCAA guy. Miller followed that same path.
Not sure if you are comprehending? 47 games is the most this guy has ever played in his career in one season .
Not any other numbers but the games played.
47 games does not a #1 goalie make.
Again, this is Murray's #1 goalie of the future. - Pluviophile
Did Murray not draft Lehner and follow his career closely . It seems Mr Murray has had a pretty good record with Goalies from what I have researched . If he thinks this kid has the goods . What makes you think he does not. Were you following his career closely before he was traded to Buffalo? I remember when he was healthy in Ottawa there was talk of Anderson being traded because of his performance. I am confused where you get your absolute opinion from that he is not an NHL starter.

But he's never played more than 40 games... (Hides)

It simply speaks to the talent level that still was available at pick # 21 and not that White would have been Murray's pick.
As far as Lehner goes he has been fading since the 2013/14 season.(not that he was ever that great)
There is a reason why Anderson and the Hamburgler took playing time away from Lehner, they were better!
Not to mention Lehner has only played over 40 games twice in his playing career.
2009-10 Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds - only 47 games 27 - 13 - 3 (2.80 gaa)- .918 sv%
2011-12 Binghamton Senators - only 40 games 13 - 22 - 1 (3.26 gaa)- .907 sv%
So his best playing days were all the back in 2009/10 with an OHL team.
But this is Murray's #1 goaltender and from what the numbers dictate has never been a #1.
The numbers in totality tell a pretty good story of what I can expect from Mr Lehner.

this whole statement is poop... you are taking a players non pro career and extrapolating it to him being a highly talented player. then taking someone's limited pro career and saying he is useless all while completely ignoring his non pro career.. he looked promising and was touted as a top goalie prospect before turning pro.
