Im fine with that too, as long as Vrbata/Hamhuis/Prust/Higgins/Weber get sold of at TDL, or even just hamhuis and Vrbata |

I disagree, teams will always be hesitant to trade their developed talent unless there is an issue. The only reason Johansen is available was because of his health/attitude issues.
Jones is a hell of a prospect but hasn't proved anything close to what Johansen has in this league. - belcherbd
I think GMs want to protect their jobs too. You'll always have cowboys who throw out ridiculous proposals but we are already seeing a shift in the way GM wheel and deal these days. That's obviously an effect of the salary cap but it also has to do with hesitation of making that 'stupid' deal.
The johansen/jones deal is smart and safe. I don't think you are giving jones enough credit. Young defenseman (21) playing behind Weber and Josi. We all know dman take longer to develop and he already shows offensive ability at a young age. His defensive abilities need work but that’s typical for such a young prospect.
Don't underestimate Clb's need for a #1 Dman. Issues with johansen have been systemic going back to previous regimes. I think Clb needed D help more than they needed to get rid of johansen. |

No, i want a high draft pick if it is the vets doing all the work. But if the youngsters are stepping up in big ways then I can get on board with winning and not losing. |

I think we are going to see more of the Johansen/Jones type trades. I guess they have been coined hockey trades. Quality for quality. Smart deals.
The Stamkos proposal is a wonderful idea but if we couldn't even compete in a deal for Johansen (or even someone like Turris) then how could we swing a deal for Stamkos and keep him?
Local kids who are first line centres in the NHL. My god, why couldn't my team focus more on drafting local talent. - bloatedmosquito
We will not trade for Stamkos. Benning has had chances to be in on lesser trades and has not. D &D . |

But will FA allow the suck that will happen while this pays off? Vancouver is a bad market to be a GM in because the owner is a PoS. |

I don't know if it possible for him to play as poorly as Weber, might as well take a shot. |

I'm pretty sure Lefty would be an upgrade on Weber. |

I would take him. Makes it easier to dump hamhuis, weber, bart and the TDL. Kinds odd his NHL numbers arent better cus he puts up very solid numbers in the AHL. |

I think he is a guy, like Carrado, that could do well with more timje down there but we could let him go through growing pains here |

Devils advocate here, so your saying that you wouldn't be happy if the vets on this team grind out a playoff spot and go on a run. Culminating in a return to the cup final. .....
And that if the kids play a huge roll and we win enough games to just miss the playoffs then that's OK because the kids where the ones driving the bus. ....
In the Pacific wwhoever misses the playoffs will get a top 10 pick. I would rather get in and see what happens then cheer losing. Do you know who loses? Losers lose. Look at the leafs and the oilers. Do I want that hot mess on my hands? Can I hear a hell no?
If wetrade expiring vets at the deadline I can be on board with that. Add long as we try to win.
Tanking is for bums and bum lovers, not that there is anything wrong with that. If we end up at the bottom naturally then that's OK, but I will not cheer or support for losing. |

Not tanking, strategically losing. Yes I would rather miss the playoffs if the Vets drive the bus, because they all jump off in the playoffs. Why bother? If the kids drive the bus, maybe they stay in the drivers seat all playoffs long. |

Agreed. Bury Higgins in the minors next season if no one will take him. Just get him as far as possible from the youth movement. He's done; dude can't even stay on his feet for more than 5 seconds if the puck is anywhere in his vicinity. |
