I agree with you 100% on this.
I also dont think we should part with Hamius, our most consistent and steady D man. On a poor D core why part w our most solid guy - SMBDragon
There in lies the whole problem we find ourself in with this team. Everyone wants to keep there old worn out toys because they were fun to play with at one time. You can always take you're money and go get new toys that are just as effective if not better then the old busted ones. Hard choices and changes have to be made. |

I am all for getting tougher but you just can't take Edler out and replace him with Sbisa or Pedan. You need a skilled player to replace him - VANTEL
Sure you can. Take edlers 5 mil and spend it on some score in or a diffrent 5 mil d man....point is he is not a winning player...he's no leader for the younger d ,and frankly he's just a crappy player for the money. |

Could get a good prospect and Atleast a first rounder for him. Since the league has high hopes for him still. Draft and develop with some vets with character patrolling the line. - Bullfrog77
Flagged for quoting yourself.

Edler should be able to hit....Ive seen him lay out some big ones in the past so I know he can.
Prob is AV turned this group into guys afraid to hit. Why? Cause he saw we were getting raped by the refs...and he was right. Esp during the 2011 final....we couldnt retaliate... we were already getting imaginary calls as it was.
But this is 2016 and things are different now. THe team needs to get back to hitting again, with some direction from behind the bench I believe edler can be what we all want him to be |

Im for some new blood....but look at what most here are suggesting. Sell him for anyone, or a 2nd rd. That doesnt replace a 2014 olympian from gold medal winning team.
My point is this....why sell off your BEST D assets that are keeping you together? Get rid of the crap 1st. REplace the crap with better and then later you can move your top and steady guys who are aging....you dont just go and leave yourself with a D thats lumps of coal....thats stupid
we also need some D vets too. No one better for this than hamius |

No see my other post above....we need him still. UNLESS JB has a complete retool plan in mind that has vets. Would be a major operation and difficult to achieve.
But yes, Higgins Im done with. I like burrows still but wish he was at 2M now.
On paper yes you can replace old with new for same money....in real world not so much. People have been doing too much fantasy hockey |

Didn't we hear at some point early in the season Hamhuis and the org were talking extension? So many factors involved, but I think you are right, we will miss Hamhuis when he is gone but we have so many left handed dmen coming up or in the lineup. Someone will step up.
That being said, if Hammer stays and is resigned at a discount, that wouldn't be so bad either. having him in the lineup is allowing others to season and he is a steadying influence.
So many left handed dmen though. |

Easily replaceable for the money were payin him. Could get two dependable defenceman that may actually be able to get their shots past the first blocker and hit the net too. An added bonus might be simply tying up opposing players sticks in front of there goalie. And being absoloutly crazy here if at all possible if they could....occasionally lay the body, well then I'd say the team would be much better off! - Bullfrog77
It must be super easy to do.
Please enlighten us with how you would go about acquiring 2 good dmen for his salary. |

It has to do with replacing vets with the kids when they are ready. Sedins have three years left. The team will definitely be ready by then - VANTEL
Exactly. It's ridiculous saying Horvat and Mcann have a 2C ceiling. I remember people saying Hank was likely a 3C with a 2 C ceiling. I wouldn't be shocked if one of them becomes a first line player. They are still kids! |

He is crap....he leads a lot of cat agonies because he's on the ice 28 mins a game. It was no fluke that he lead the league in worst plus minus...6 ft 4 pylon that has no idea how to check....I'll take biega , some draft picks an cap relief any time - Bullfrog77

exactly....I hope they do that. Thank god some of the posters here dont have control of the team, we'd have nothing left but draft picks. we'd be worse than the oilers for years and just praying all those pics pan out.
Make smaller moves along the way in the meantime.
We added hutton this year and hopefully pedan.
We can add a player like say...tinordi (dont jump on this, Im just picking a name recently mentioned in here) for maybe 3 rd pic.
Subban isnt great on D but has value, move him to habs (since theyd pay the most for him) for young D off their roster.
Then we are off to a good start. Maybe JB signs a decent UFA D too. Looking back, Franson wouldve looked good here btw |

JB moved Lack partly because of salary demands/agent.
I wonder if the Canucks talked to him early on when his demands were higher or they believed to be out of their range. If you are too picky when everyone is hooking up at the end of the night your options are limited to none at the end of the night.

edler has serious skill and more potential. I dont think he was developed properly as we havent hard decent D coaches in many years. Not since the quinn days or perhaps carlyles stint here (can t recall who was head coach at the time).
Get a decent D coach in here and retool the D....as in put in your exit strategies, coordinate with your goaltender for rebound placings etc
Speaking of Carlyle, I noticed him at the anaheim game watching from above.... obviously a quest of the team. He may be off the market pretty quick then. He should get him for D coach before hes gone. |

It's not " what you can do " it's what you will do. Edler quit hitting years ago after he got suspended. He was supposed to be an up an coming physical d man that could score. ....he's not physical....can't get his shot to the net...and his d zone play....crap. So were on the hook for that fat salary because gillis thought he was gonna be great? He's not , we could do better for this team for the money. |

Ya and he did say he wanted to play here too. Makes you wonder if JB wasnt interested or it was stupid demands by the agent. ALSO it can be who the agent is too.... JB want nothing to do with kesler and bieksas agent. |
