I watched a bit of the game and the Kings announcers were all over the narrative that he is now stepping into a reduced role. I laugh, but I do hope he plays well for them. There's no reason not to root for him and he stuck by his word that he just wants to play - YuenglingJagr
It is funny, he went from a 4th liner here, to a healthy scratch. And it's been going on for two seasons. I'm rooting for him also. Hey, he set up Muzzin last night! |

It isn't about what he's going to do if you offer him one year. Hextall saw how he played last year, liked some of his intangibles, and wanted the player for two years, and the price was right. There is very little risk in the signing. So many things are overblown. - MJL
Sure there is: If he can't handle the role he is in and if another team who might have interest passes because they don't want the extra year.
What's overblown is you rushing to the defense of an average-at-best player -- are you seriously wanting to fight about this today?

I didn't see the injury. What happened to Ghost? - PLindbergh31
Knee on knee hit with Koivu. He did play a few more shifts so hopefully it's just a minor strain or a muscle pull |

I have no ill will towards Lecavalier. He agreed to retire at the end of the year which enabled the Flyers to shed his contract. |

Absolutely -- two years for Nick Schultz? What's he going to do if you offer him one year, cripple the franchise if he walks?
He's the very definition of average. - AllInForFlyers
If Hextall can trade Grossmann with a year left at $3.5m, why can't he trade Schultz with a year left at $2.25m?
I thought the Rinaldo extension was insane at the time, but he turned it into a 3rd. |

Yikes. Didn't see that. Was it the surgically repaired knee? |

I thought he had one of his better games. Yes, again, his puck skills are akin to that of Amy from the movie Kongo, but he played a solid defensive game I thought. - jak521

I'm not rushing to the defense of the player at all. Feel free to read the comments I made about him and his puck skills. It wasn't that long ago, it's on this thread.
I discussing the thinking behind the contract. I think it's being overblown. I have no issue with the signing. |

They ate money on Grossmann to move him -- not sure that is an option anybody would find appealing with Schultz |

ok well then my argument is in November he didn't produce squat. so not an offensive force. plenty of peeps have good runs.
please stop with the Bergeron crap. my God. - rinaldo
Why? He is the top defensive center on the team, and he is producing right now. He struggle with consistency, but that doesnt mean he isnt or cant be an offensive force. He just turned 23 and is finally getting some serious talent to play with.
If he can continue to produce at his current level, while still being a dominant defensive forward he will be right up there with Bergergon.
The one thing he truly does need to improve are his numbers at the dot. |

The signing was no big deal, however I don't think anyone would be disappointed if he were to be moved at the deadline. In a 3rd pair role he could be affordable help to a contender. |

We can't retain anymore salaries anyway this season. We reached our limit with Grossman, Schenn, Wheels |

The only reason they ate money on that deal was to cover the cost of Pronger's salary. |

I really didnt think he played bad at all last night. He definitely is not the guy I want carrying the puck, shooting the puck, make break out passes with the puck, stealing stanley cup final pucks, playing Puck from a Midsummer Night's Dream, interviewing Puck from The Real World, or literally having anything to do with any other derivative of the word puck. Unless it involves letting a puck hit him. Ill allow that. - jak521
very nice.

I had no idea that was the hit that caused the injury because he played on the ensuing power play and a few shifts after. Very weird to me and seems more like a muscle tweak than any structural damage |

I agree, I would look to move Streit, but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. They have to create some room at some point. Schultz seems like a likely candidate. |

with our luck the knee on knee hit caused a career ending concussion |

2nd line was spot on again. Mason was clutch . Read actually stood out to me a few times.
It had it's chaotic moments, but they came through when it mattered. |

At 2.25 he'd be easier to move. A contender would probably figure that they could unload him in the offseason, especially if they were willing to retain 750k or so. A rebuilding team might have interest in a guy like Schultz for 1 year at 1.5 million. |
