I don't understand this trade...two players of equal value and Benning, yet again, throwing away picks in a trade. The guys a (frank)in moron! - LeftCoaster
Etem - marginal NHLer who could become a 3rd liner
Jensen - a guy who is barely cutting it on the AHL team
6th rounder - gives them a chance to have something
I don't like Benning either, but this is the kind buy low trading he should be doing. |

Etem has some really good wheels. Remember when Kes got traded he was on everyone's wish list. Well we got him. So far JB has been doing ok with his trades. Sven is turning out nice. I see Vey creating a good many chances .
We need to be patient with these young guys. Look at Hutton , he makes mistakes but so far has been a good learning year. Markstrom finding his stride. You wanted the smaller skilled forwards and JB is finding a way to bring them in. - VANTEL
Agreed. I like this move. Bring in a guy Willie knows and can speak to, trade out a bit of a busted first rounder and a 6th. |

I don't see that being an Etem problem. I see that as Prust-Higgins problem.
Getting anything resembling an everyday NHLer out of Etem is a win. If he can turn into Jannik Hansen (useful top9 player) then its great. - Lindenis#1
That is the ceiling for him in my opinion. A useful utility player, high 40 point scorer, delivers some speed and energy, solid but not a difference maker.
If he can deliver that this will have been a good trade. From what I've seen he has (or had maybe) it in him but he lacked the consistency to do it night in night out.
This is a low risk punt by Benning. |

Etem would have slightly more value than Jensen as he has done something in the NHL. Not his fault this year AV used him as a whipping boy from what i hear their fans say. |

Ray Ferraro said he sees Virtanen as a Hansen. Just more physical but doesn't score as much as him. |

I like Jensen, I don't think their numbers are too far off each other. i don't know, I think this is a low risk but low reward type deal and he's giving away picks again, not crazy about it...sorry. |

If that's true, what a great use of a 6th overall pick. |

I lost respect for Ferraro.
Virtanen will never be a top scorer... but I see him closer to a Kreider or Saad type. Kid is already holding his own physically.... will only get stonger and faster for the next couple of years. |

I always found Etem a nuisance to play against when he was with the Ducks. Hopefully he can do that again in a Canucks jersey. |

Usually I would get on board and I also have been a fan of Jensen but their numbers are pretty far off in the AHL.
Jensen 57 pts in 137 games
Etem 92 in 119
I don't know if Etem is as well rounded but I think that potential is worth a 6th. |

Jensens always been cast in a bottom six role in the AHL, Etem hasn't, it's more than just numbers for me though. Size, speed, learning to fit that into an NHL role, I just don't see a huge upgrade and I'm mad about the pick |

I think Ferraro was bang on and he wasn't criticizing Virtanen but pointing out that people's expectations are likely too high if they are expecting a consistent top 6 scorer. He said he didn't think he had the hockey IQ to do that but expected him to be a very good bottom 6 guy who can chip in , in a variety of ways.
Brouwer, Ward, Hansen, Clowe, etc are all more realistic expectations than Perry, Bertuzzi that people throw around.
