You are hilarious. Jensen had next to no value and wouldn't secure Etem. He isn't "throwing" away pics for (frank)sakes. Look at it another way, 2 6th round pics for a guy playing in the NHL now with more upside. Jensens time with the Canucks was finished. Etem would be easily the best player on the Comets if was playing down there and Jensen can barely produce.

Thats pretty bold to say with how shink is playing

I like Jensen, I don't think their numbers are too far off each other. i don't know, I think this is a low risk but low reward type deal and he's giving away picks again, not crazy about it...sorry.
- LeftCoaster

Wow, just saw the trade, totally called it.

A 6th rounder in 2017, really?

Etem, while I'm not particularly high on the kid, has out-performed Jensen in absolutely every level.

It's ok to have an opinion, it's another to allow it to form a bias ala Nucker.

I was wondering what your response was going to be. I've criticized Jansen for a while and you've always preached patience. Etem is a willie guy. Jansen was not.

The only thing now is that we have far too many NHL roster forwards.

I think if either makes it, if ever, they'd both be bottom six players, if Etem has upside it's marginal.

The fact he's in the NHL is meaningless, situational, Jensen had an extended look at one point too.

- LeftCoaster

Do you put zero stock in their AHL performances? 1st line ppg vs a 4th line plug. ANA and NY also have much deeper rosters so if he can maker their teams he can make ours. Jensen was never going to receive a call up let alone make the roster. Worth a 6th round pic any day

Going from a promising 2nd pairing Dman to the #1 franchise D on a new team is quite the jump for a young guy.

Plus Torts probably just gave the entire locker room the hair dryer treatment.

More like Virtanen to the minors I'd assume.

I don't understand this trade...two players of equal value and Benning, yet again, throwing away picks in a trade. The guys a (frank)in moron!

It's his dam lack of capable "asset management".

"This move is a coup for Benning, who recouped excellent value on Jensen in the form of an NHL ready winger that can figure prominently into the Canucks plans going forward. For as maligned a manager as Benning has been in this space - rightfully so - serious credit is due for exploiting this market inefficiency and buying low on a likely ascending asset in an untenable situation."

On a site note, can the Canucks not assign him to the AHL for a conditioning stint as well?

Why not both? Healthy the depth chart is probably something like

Danny Hank Hansen
Baertschi Sutter Vrbata
Etem Horvat Burrows
Prust McCann Dorsett
Higgins Vey Cracknell
Virtanen

Sending both the kids back and shipping Higgins out isn't the end of the world.

vrbata an Prust gone by deadline. Good lord willing Higgins is off the roster as well. I think Etem is here to play with Bo and Sven. Benning knows he's Atleast dropping Vrbata for a pick, tbh he wasn't doing squat with the young fellas anyway.

Hopefully for sure. I think we'd better wrap our heads around the fact that Prust is staying.

Montreal might take him back for that 5th. They are getting pretty desperate over there.

I still think there are plenty of GMs that are dumb enough to think Prust can provide "grit" (aka late missed hits because he's out of position and never has the puck) because you need that kind of "veteran presence" to go deep.

Or something.

I'm not confident in Benning's ability as a salesman on Vrbata but if we can get a Bieksa return and maybe an extra pick or something tossed in for Hamhuis I'll be content with the deadline.

I lost respect for Ferraro.

Virtanen will never be a top scorer... but I see him closer to a Kreider or Saad type. Kid is already holding his own physically.... will only get stonger and faster for the next couple of years.

- Mungo

I see virt as a Evander Kane type. Fast, hits prob a 20 goal 20 assist type.
