There are just some blockbuster deals that can really throw off track the direction of a team. Trading for Dustin Byfuglien and possibly parting with one of our prized prospects is one. If give up Morin, you lose that possible steady ankor in size. If you move one of Provorov or Sanheim, you possibly lose a future noris nominee/winner. Travis Konecny is easily our best forward prospect, so there is no moving him.
I think we could use Big Buff but I don't think he's someone you sacrifice everything you've built to get.

If it was 3 years down the line when all 5 prospects, possibly, are up with the Flyers and Buff was 31 then it would be a different story to me... Bring him in for leadership but that isnt the case and Im okay with riding out with what we have until then. |

Yeah makes zero sense. Flyers have some of the deepest and most talented D prospect pool in the league. Gost up has already proven that not only does he belong but he flat out has near all-star level offensive skills.
Provorov and possibly Morin could end up on the blueline next year alongside Gost with Gudas and MDZ and all of the sudden the Flyers backend looks really good. |

He doesn't play 30 minutes a game. I think his weight is cause for concern in the future. - MJL
Maybe. Who knows? I don't like these mega $$$ long term contracts in general. That's what teams will be offering him, so I'd stay away from him for that reason. He'd sure be fun to have for a few years tho. |

Scary if he gave Macdonald 6 years and 30 million....what's Buff 7 years for 56 million?

Thanks Bill. A solid win against the NYI, however the NYI didn't bring their "A" game. The next ten or so games will tell where the Flyers are at; we play Boston, Detroit, NYR, and Washington. Like the Flyers, the NYI are trying to find consistency, and the ability to earn a playoff spot. It will be interesting to see if the players that have found a new life (Raffl, Read, Coots, Schenn, etc..) can continue to build upon the better play that they have been providing the last couple of games.
This season, and parts of last season's stats have really dropped off for these guys, and I would start to question their ability to develop, and start scoring on a regular basis. One may argue in their defense that injuries, and different line-mates for these players may have contributed to their lower than expected level of play, but good players adapt to adversity. If these guys don't progress, why are we holding on to them? I want them to do well, but with the pay raises, extensions, etc... I would expect a little more production from them. And, would someone please change our second PP unit; they are painful to watch.
Good luck to the Flyers the next few games, and I hope that they come out on the other side, playing well, and winning games. |

I recall him wanting 7 years/$50mm.
Given Byfuglien's size and propensity for showing up to camp in less than stellar shape, there's no way I give a guy his age a deal longer than 3-4 years and even that long bugs me. - Jsaquella
I agree too many years. They just got out of a deadweight contract, why jump right into another one? |

The Isles were certainly missing a couple of key defenseman, but in my opinion, the Flyers took whatever game the isles had away from them.
Other than breaking up the top PP unit, and changing players, what other moves can they make with the current roster, to improve the 2nd PP unit? Honestly, it's really the first PP unit that should be more concerning.

I concur, my brother MJL.
Small quibble: wouldn't mind seeing Laughton on PP2 in Read's place. His speed and shot on his off side would help. Berube actually did use him there briefly. |

Absolutely. The Isles might not have played their best game, but the Flyers played really well, which really made the Isles poor play look even worse.
I'd like to see Laughton in a bigger role. I know he's been having some struggles, but I'd like to see him play more, give him more ability to play through a mistake and atone for it |

They should. They have a lot of jump and even Umberger has played well with them, for the most part. Still want to see the FNG get some games here. |
