Caps maybe though they just signed Richards. Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Florida, Tampa, Boston maybe? Just thinking teams who think they could make a run and you need depth for that.
I think retaining salary is a no brainer for the Canucks to maximize a return. 1) if they end up waiving him, they save $900k on the cap, but end up spending the whole $2.5m plus whatever a replacement player costs. B) If they buy him out, they pay 2/3 of his full salary over two years and it counts against the cap, plus whatever a replacement player costs. 3) If they retain half his salary, they pay only $1.25m plus whatever a replacement player costs, and they might be able to get a draft pick, or waiver exempt prospect in return. - 1970vintage
Maybe Nsh?
and agreed on retaining salary |

If Canucks trade Higgins/Vrbata/Hamhuis...And the kids can get Vancouver to the playoffs, Id happily jump off the tank train. (although i think missing the playoffs is inevitable) |

I don't see many teams rushing out to trade for a 32 yr old player with 2 goals. A few players have gone though on waivers and I think he is next.
There are cap issues for contenders, and I don't see them giving up any kind of asset to a guy who is doing zip.
I think by the end of the week it will be 950 saved on his cap hit while he finishes out in Utica and bring in Etem at 895k. |

I think JB is done putting in the work, you don't hand it over to the agents if there's still calls to make. No one is interested and I don't think the team wants to hold salary, it's Utica and a buy out this summer for Higgins.
It says even your agent can't find a place for you - A_SteamingLombardi
They told us last summer , we tried to trade him , no one wanted him. I don't think I see any reason that a team would change their mind after his illustrious year he is having. |

The player probably happiest to see the attention focused on Higgins is Burrows. His cap hit next year is 4.5 mil but his salary is 3. If they can't move him they could buy him out and get a 3 mil cap relief and pay him 1.5 for the next two years.
He is another player that we are going to find out has little value.
Buying both out is a 7 mil cap hit reduced to 2.33 |

I think the writings on the wall for Burrows, cant see him on the team next year. Whether its a trade or buyout |

Hoping for a trade. Reduced salary , utility player. Even if the ate another mil .
Having some fun but not expecting it to happen in any way. 4.6 savings on Burrows Higgins buyout plus Vrbatas cap =9.6 for all those dreaming of getting Stamkos |

Hate to be the Debbie Downer, but I don't think even in our wildest dreams that we'd get Stamkos. Tampa Bay isn't going to let him walk away via FA and we don't have the assets to trade for him. If some team wants him, they aren't going to trade away blue chip prospects and picks without some assurance he'll sign there long-term. |

I dont think Tampa really has a say with a NTC...look at what happened to New Jersey and Nashville (granted they were trying to push for playoffs but still) |

Neither do I. Yesterday vancouver fans here and on Twitter were buzzing a bit so I was just saying they have the space. I don't want to go after it though. |

Hockey Night in canada was talking about it, they showed Stamkos picture with the nucks logo in the backround and then they made up a chart of how the canucks can afford him |

ducks cant reach contract ext on vatanen He's RHD and 24....one of ducks top D it says....they wish to trade for scoring....vrbatta + ? - SMBDragon
With the emergence of Shea Theodore apparently playing insanely good hockey, I am sure this makes things a bit easier for the Ducks IF they have to part ways. |
