I'll get over it when we are good and playing meaningful games.
It just kind of sucks. I was all in on this rebuild and got really into watching some of the prospects play. And just like that......they are gone, and we still suck - sbroads24
Now I understand it, anyhow.
We disagree - you know already - on the idea that we suck. You keep looking at the standings and wins and I keep looking at what pieces we still need before we're really, really good.
Be patient. We're closer than you think, and closer than the standings reflect. |

I just think your expectations for this season were unrealistic. We still need pieces . We acquired pieces. Lehner going down early has hurt especially since we do not know if he is what Murray thinks he is. The games are a lot more fun to watch and the prospects are developing nicely. We still need a few more pieces. I thought a lot more than of Myers than even you did . But it seems our GM did not . It took Myers to get Kane who our GM seemed to covet . Time will tell He is still coming of a serious shoulder surgery that ended his season . I am willing to give him more time as I see the tools. I still love Myers and try to watch his games. But he is gone and there is nothing we can do about it. Past being bitter. I was busy with work and stayed away from the boards for a few months after the trade to get over it and deal with some serious poop with my company. |

This statement here suggests you think the trade favors the jets right now which i cant for the life of me comprehend. None of the pieces other than the big 4 are contributing for either team so i dont even want to hear that. When that possibly happens then ill entertain.
The jets have regressed, coupled with the fact(?) that myers has taken the number 1 defender spot. Interesting.
The sabres albeit very slightly throughout the stat sheet, have progressed. The eye test tells an entirely better story than the stats do and puck luck is a sore subject so far this season. I dont like using the lots of new players, new coach ect argument but it also fits this narrative.
The sabres unlike the jets, are young and inexperienced. They also dont have a goalie playing near the level of either winnipeg netminders.
Myers isnt a true top defender just like kane isnt a true top line winger. Bogosian and stafford both have their respective issues. I like whoever said even, because it looks pretty damn even to me too. |

Records are a team statistic. The Jets have gotten brutal goaltending, and special teams this year. That's why they have regressed, they are one of the better possession teams in the league lately, and out shot us by 15.
As far as the trade, Myers has 1 less point than Kane and Bogosian combined. Stafford has 6 more goals than Kane.
There 1st round pick that was included is one of the NCAA leaders in scoring, Brendan Lemieux has been on fire in juniors.
We paid the price we did to get the best player in the deal, and so far Kane hasn't been, at all. I'm estatic he got an assist on an empty net goal. He's currently on his 3rd streak of 5+ games without a goal this season. He's made a tangible impact in only a handful of 30+ games. |

Funny how the standings are the only thing that actually matters though. While i realize it would denounce an argument for the sabres currently being 'ahead' in the trade, it certainly doesnt prove any case for winnipeg being 'ahead' in the trade.
While we did trade away alot on paper, lemieux seems like a block head who hasnt proved anything at the NHL level. I dont like that we gave him up honestly, i thought he was going to be the perfect player to be able to bring in and replace a contract with. Sucks that he allegedly didnt want to be here. Or whatever.
You also make the point all the time about it was the right decision to finish last for eichel and trading for an injured player was probably the most important part of that deal. That doesnt show up on paper.
I guess you forgot to acknowledge the the terrible puck luck we have had this year. What has kane hit 5 or 6 goal posts in just the last 10-15 games? While i was wrong about winnipegs goaltending, the discrepancy between team sv% isnt comparable to the difference in team sh% between the jets and sabres.

You might not like it, but it's the truth. think of it this way. Let's say you've been playing guitar for years, and one day someone says "now you have to play with the opposite hand." sure, you're playing the same music, but you're playing it a completely different way, and you're going to suck at it for a while until you get the hang of it. That's what it's like to have half of your roster that's new, a new coach and a new system.
Just like when a team that's not deep has injuries and loses a bunch of games *cough Bills. It sucks to lose, but when you don't have even decent players filling in for pro-bowlers at crucial positions it's tough to win games.

Except there are teams that adapt to a new coach or teammates every year and still produce.
This is a young team. I'll give them that. But I don't buy the new system excuse. It's been a whole training camp, preseason and 42 game regular season. If adapting to a new system is still hard for some players, at this point I question the system.

I would bet Perrault, or Mogilny did it faster. I know Perrault scored the first hat trick in Sabres history. - Wetbandit1

Name the last team that had the same amount of roster turnover, was this young, and a new coach/system that hit the ground running after a historically bad season. I'll wait. The amount of change the Sabres underwent is unheard of. There are really no comparisons. Right now our top 6 has 5 new players in it. And 2 goalies that never played for this team before and one is a rookie that's never even played on North American ice before. Show me a team that has done that.

None of this has anything to do with a system. It's a young team that needs to mature, and still add a few key pieces.

Yeah, I looked after I posted. Perrault got it in his and the Sabres' 48th game of the season, so it took him 3 less games than Samson. That's pretty good company. |

I had to go to like 11 different sites just to find the info. And even when I found it I had to use info from two different sites. One that said he scored it on 1/29/71, so then I had to go to another with the schedule which helpfully had the number of the game next to the results and saw it was game #48. |

Gionta; Moulson; McCormick; Benoit; Meszaros.
And kept Teddy behind the bench?
He may not have bought into a five year rebuild, but this did nothing to count as year 1. |

They did not miss the playoffs the year before by over 40 points , they did not have a 50% roster turnover , I don't believe they both had new coaches as well . But facts have no place here, |
