Hockeywriters.com choice for Sabres in expansion draft:
Buffalo Sabres
Protected (9F, 5D, 1G)
F: Matt Moulson, Tyler Ennis, Ryan O’Reilly, Evander Kane, Marcus Foligno, Brian Gionta, Nicolas Deslauriers, Johan Larsson, Jame McGinn
D: Zach Bogosian, Josh Gorges, Mark Pysyk, Matt Donovan, Carlo Colaiacovo
G: Robin Lehner
Notable Exempt: Jack Eichel, Rasmus Ristolainen, Zemgus Girgensons
Notable Unprotected: David Legwand, Cody McCormick, Mike Weber, Chad Johnson
The Sabres would likely rather keep Mike Weber ahead of Donovan or Colaiacovo, but neither meet the NHL games played requirement. If the Sabres want to keep him, they could sign a free agent defenseman who meets the requirements and immediately leave him unprotected.

I think it is missing Reinhart on the Notable Exempt.....

Why? I'd keep McCormick before I'd keep Moulson unprotected. But that list of "Notable unprotected" isn't very notable imo. NHL might need to change the rules for this one.

With the odd you might want to consider not protecting Ullmark in an expansion draft and using his spot to protect someone else. 30 teams in the league each offering up a goalie and 2 expansion teams taking a total of 4 goalies. I'd bet Ullmark wouldn't be one of the 4.

If you edit their list, I'd remove the 2 you bolded, remove Cola and Donavan and protect Ullmark. That gets them to the 7/3/2 with no real losses to worry about
bills. dont think an average qb gets us where we wanna go. and there is no way to get one picking 19th. maybe it gets better when brady retires, so at least we wont have to go 10-4 against the field to even have a look at the wild card, but brady looks like he could play for 5 more years.
love murray. with eichel, oreilly, and ristolainen he has the center position and part of the defense locked down. obviously still a work in progress as there are holes on defense and the wings but its definitely heading the right way.

I can't imagine recapture penalties would take effect over a player moving teams on an expansion draft. That would suck - stashu
it looks like the cba has a provision so that if a team relocates or the player is taken in an expansion draft, the cap recapture does not apply. either way, its for contracts longer than 6 years and moulsons was only 5. no idea why somebody felt we would not expose him.

Moulson would absolutely be drafted in an expansion draft.
A) 3 years left on deal
B) 5MM is a going rate celery
C) Cap space would need to be filled
D) Veteran presence
What do we do if the expansion draft doesn't happen this summer, but next summer? Some of the guys we have on the exempt list might no longer be. Foligno, Girgensons, Risto, McCabe will all be on their new deals (if we keep Foligno). So that opens up more spots.
Gotcha. My friend said it is absolutely accurate, and oddly enough he had a bunch of friends in the "a bunch of your friends live here" region. - stashu
I spent a lot of my time watching guys like Compher, Armia, Grigo, Zadorov, the 15' draft class thinking about who could fall to 21.

From what I saw of the names above, I saw very talented floaters in Armia and Grigorenko, enough that it made me question what kind of impact they could have at the NHL level, meaning top 6 versus bottom 6.
I like Compher quite a bit, but don't think he'll score enough at the NHL level. Best case 3rd line player.
Zadorov could be your number one defensemen one night and your 5th another. I thought he was ultimately a #3 D, and I, like so many others, thought he was the best of the 4.
