I dont disagree. But 1 just asked for a trade and the other can walk in 5 months. - Gerk
You acknowledge that Stamkos will walk at the end of the season (likely to Toronto), and you're willing to give up Shattenkirk for that? No thanks. If the Blues are dealing Shattenkirk, he needs to go to a team that will sign him before the end of the year in exchange for a player that has/will get a similar contract.
I've said it time and time again, but I think the right dance partner for the Blues right now is Edmonton. Shattenkirk and a prospect (not named Fabbri) would likely draw Nuge and a pick; or a bigger trade, like Pietrangelo (who I don't necessarily want to trade) and a prospect, could possibly land Draisaitl and someone like Nurse. |

What are you talking about. I said he could walk or resign or do whatever he wants since FA. Backes is same position as Stamkos higher priced forward in contract year. Not same level but similar situation contract wise. |

Edmonton has to try something
sitting on their hands every year hoarding picks just isn't going to work to get a balanced team |

I don't think CBJ will be very interested in trading Hartnell within the division unless the return is really, really good. |

I don't know that contract might bite us eventually , we should sell him while he's still relevant. |

doesn't happen and likely won't happen in the nhl.
there just isn't enough incentive for a player to take part in one. |

What do you guys think of a Nichushkin for Drouin swap? Think it would fly? Dallas would most likely have to add a defenseman prospect + I'd imagine, but the Stars have that in Johns, Lindell, Honka, Nemeth, and Oleksiak. I love Val, he's actually my favorite player on the Stars, but Drouin is enticing as well. Nich has struggled this season, but I attribute that to missing almost all of last season, and not playing much with Benn and Seguin this year.
Jagr did say that he thinks Val could be one of the best in the league one day. He's a good judge of talent I'd say, lol.
While I doubt Dallas will get Drouin, as we don't really need another scoring forward, its still fun to speculate! I doubt theres a team that's not interested. |

I don't know why you would want to trade Nichushkin or consider it, he has looked good in the games I have seen him. He is more established as an NHLer than Drouin at this point too. A big winger that dmen have a hard time dealing with. |

Cant wait for Stamkos to re-sign and watch all the Leaf fans pout or change their tune - Ross77
There are Leafs fans who think it's going to happen, but aren't exactly happy about it.
Signing someone to an 8 year 10+mil contract when you're trying to restart and build a young team to grow with isn't necessarily the best idea. |

there is an incentive now. 1 extra contract year which should be around 10.5 million per year. If he's forced to sign a 7 year contract, chances are he couldn't sign a 10.5 million dollar contract in 7 year when he's into is decline. |

Oh, I don't want to trade him! I was just throwing it out there because it doesn't seem like much of a stretch in terms of possibility. Dallas has had a nasty habit of trading my favorites over the years. He's kinda been in and out of Ruffs doghouse this season, so I worry about it somewhat, lol.
We need a top pairing d-man more than anything tho. If we were to trade him, it would be for that I'd think. |

he'd likely sign a back diving contract so that last year would probably be closer to $7M. So we're talking about the difference between say $87M and $80M.
At 33 for a player of his level, $7M is not unattainable (Ignila, Sedins are in the neighborhood).
there is also something to be said for his ability to be free to negotiate with every team directly rather than through his current team.
i think the lack of history of it also speaks volumes as to the likelihood. |

I can see the move for a dman. When we drafted Horvat, I had been hoping for Nichushkin... |

It's not all Leafs fans. I argue constantly that Stamkos is not coming to Toronto.
Ek's rumour is rather disturbing as it indicates the likelihood is Steve will NOT resign in Tampa |
