Who won't be back next season? (gone sooner or later)
guessing
Higgins
Burrows
Vrbata
Weber
Prust
Cracknell
still not sure about Hamhuis. Can't see him signing here for less than 4 but wouldn't be surprised if he had a better offer from another team. team needs more rhd anyway, but will still be missed.
Bartkowki might be back too.

I agree, but Lucic is a POS both on and off so I would take the cheaper ( in salary) one.
I think Benning will go after more girt in his top 6, other options would be Doan, Brouwer, Okposa, Ladd as UFA's.
Ladd or Okposo wouldl be great but doubt it would happen. Doan would be a mistake and Brouwer would likely be my #1 choice. - belcherbd
ladd is from Maple Ridge, getting him would be possible, but would we want him for the price tag he will likely want? as well as the term. |

Really like his game but is too old. I agree with the other poster who said it will turn in to a clarkson type deal |

Lets embrace the youth movement by getting rid of Hutton??? And a serviceable top 4 defenseman in Tanev?? |

Some sexiness finally to the lineup. All it took was removing Higgins. - Scooby_Doo
Lose Higgins, and gain Vey. Willie is bound to remain a meathead. Might as well have Frsisen playing 4th line. At least he's gritty.
Question fellas.
Pens are desperate for a top 4 d and depth winger
Higgins and Hamhuis for Derek Poulliot. Pens go for that? |

i think they would... but would you want Pouliot... seems to be regressing pretty badly. |

The Pens might but I doubt Hammer would waive for PIT. Higgins at this point would play for any US team that would take him as he is an American...
Pouliot was mentioned in the potential Kesler deal to PIT so we know Van has interest...and regardless what you think of WD having Vey in the lineup over Higgins it's still a step in the right direction. |

Yes but they may need to bundle him up. |

What I'm saying is its almost as if Willie is an idiot. Losing Higgins is a +. But there are lots of better options then Vey. Lots of them. We don't have to put up with Vey because he's signed long term either.
Frsisen in the 4th line role is a no brainer compared to Vey. Even Gaunce. It's not like they'd be in the press box. Vey isn't a vet for leadership. |

What is he, 21? And has what .65 pts roughly in the AHL? Did he win the Calder as an 18 yr old? If not I'm not sure how he's regressing. Is he a franchise defender? No, but he has big upside |

It's not like he's there long term. A chance to play on a talented roster for 4 months for a playoff run. |

I dont find Vey playing very bad at all, plus i believe hes waiver eligible so why risk losing a project that shows flashes of upside |

You believe wrong, he will be waiver eligible if we keep him up much longer though. |

No he's not, but I understand that there was past chemistry with Etem and they would be remiss if they didn't try to recapture that.
BTW, I'm not overly fond of Vey, but he has played much better the last couple and he is an option. I'm also not that supportive of WD and some of his coaching decision, but he is far from an idiot. |
