I dont find Vey playing very bad at all, plus i believe hes waiver eligible so why risk losing a project that shows flashes of upside
- phyllee

Vey has been playing very well the past few games and has earned the right to stay so far...I can't comment on Grenier or Gaunce in the AHL right now and whether they deserve to be up but I did think Gaunce was going to get a legit shot this year....still may happen.

John Shannon just spent the last 1/2 hr talking Blue Jays on SN360 with Bob McCown and there are trade winds blowing in the NHL and other NHL news and they are talking baseball...ya gott love SportNet...wow

- LordHumungous

Hard for Sportsnet to criticize how the Jays operate. It's like FA blasting anuck ownership for not rebuilding.
I mentioned this yesterday in the main thread, and the Marner love at the WJHC.
Roeper responded with I'm a jealous gater and Marner was the most dominating player on team Canada(I guess Dylan Strome was only by far the best on my TV) and that the Jays are bated by Sportsnet. I even stated I'm a massive Marner fan.

You believe wrong, he will be waiver eligible if we keep him up much longer though.
- Bieksa#3

Well the way hes playing now i wouldnt want him sent down when hes playing the way he is, would send a bad message, worst case scenario we go towards lottery pick over playoffs

It's not like he's there long term. A chance to play on a talented roster for 4 months for a playoff run.
- Bieksa#3

Pens are not going to move their top d prospect for a 4 month rental dman . They are also at the cap...who do they move out for hammers cap hit? No chance they do this without Canucks 1st rounder tossed in.

According to General fanager they are not at the cap. The save Dupuis contract, oro rate that for an entire season and they have plenty of space.
It all depends how much Rutherford likes his job, they keep this up and he won't have one. He'll surely move any prospect if he sees a chance to upgrade his team.

I'm not saying he's been blatantly awful but your talking like he's some kind of impact player

Ask Vantel...he appears to be JB in disguise

On tonight I like a Van win. Miller and Lou looked god-awful in the game in FLA and I am looking for Markstrom to step up and outshine Lou tonight. Should be familiar territory for Lou here with a 5-1 Van win and Lou finishing the game on the bench...

If he trades his top Defensive prospect for a rental he should be fired immediatly....not going to happen !

Yeah, he's not getting Dorsett's ice time or anything like that but I like him here.

I agree, but Lucic is a POS both on and off so I would take the cheaper ( in salary) one.

I think Benning will go after more girt in his top 6, other options would be Doan, Brouwer, Okposa, Ladd as UFA's.

Ladd or Okposo wouldl be great but doubt it would happen. Doan would be a mistake and Brouwer would likely be my #1 choice.

- belcherbd

I have been leaning toward Brouwer and even mentioned before he would be a very good addition. We need about 3 yers of toughness like that to protect the kids and teach them to stick up for each other.you don't want to get roped into a 6 year contract.

Nobody is getting Dorsett's ice time....still blows my mind that he was leading EV ice time last game....

Very entertaining piece from Ryan Whitney about what he learned from playing in Russia.

I don't agree with needing toughness to protect the kids, but do think we need some toughness that can play in the top 6 to create some space. I would hope Brouwer could do that but he is IMO more suited to the bottom 6 on a good team.

Virtanen needs a role model with some skill and grit, I'm sure Prust and Dorsett can show him some things but they at the end of the day are energy grinders.

Button's latest draft ranking has Chychrun dropping to #7 (behind another Dman Juolevei)

I'm hoping for both

A top 5 pick of our own and then trading picks/players to acquire an additional 1st rounder and take a Dman somewhere between 9-12.

Edit: Laine/Fabbro would be a sweet haul.

It is nice to have 15-20 mil in Cap Space but how do you use it?

If Bo and Sven are truely developing into a second line then how do you fill the top 6?

You have Hansen Sutter who would be considered to 6 , plus Bo and Sven , and the twins. That is why going after Stamkos makes no sense unless you are moving the twins.

You can go after Byf who is the top Dman on the UFA card but do you want to take a chance on a guy that could walk into training camp at 330 lbs?

That doesn't even begin to touch the issue you have Shink and Gaunce on the farm waiting.

I think this team is very much ready to say goodbye to Hamhuis Vrbata Burrows and Higgins.
