He has been underpaid for years ...these type of contracts are rewards for winning cups and once this CBA is over they will probably buy him out ...I see no problem with it - Redmile247
They will regret it soon enough. Burrows was underpaid for years and now Vancouver is stuck with a lousy contract with still another year left after this one |

Burrows contract has not hurt us.
He can be a TDL n hold 50% of his contract IMO |

We really don't have much to offer. The price is high. |

Its a Q not a sideways type of reply wanted.
Any team can deal if willing to pay the price.
The price is always high. |

Exactly, if you need to hold 50% of a contract, its a bad contract. Of the 4 years he has never lived up to the price paid. He came close last season, but as a whole considering his age and decline its a bad contract. Vancouver is lucky they weren't contending or is that close to the cap because his production and even the intangibles havent been worth $4.5 million a season |

No
The new package, Higgins, burrows, Hamhuis, (for bull, Edler), vrabata, Columbus 2nd
He'd play with himself. .... or Bo and Virtanen
Edit
2x 2.5 million dollar defenceman who are big, fast and physical but can also chip in some offense will come back if Edler is traded. |

|
Is that a no? - Nighthawk
Its not a yes. I do see a fit in a youth developing team but I don't see a trade that makes sense for TB. Edler maybe would sure up their defence if they are ready to make another run at the cup. The Johnson injury and that lines production has a lot of people questioning if they are a contender again. Not sure if that makes sense for either team. |

When not a contender it matters not what he is paid.
No alternative would have made a real difference.
A bad contract is eg Clarkson. |

I don't think its a crippling contract, but paying him at his age for past performances is a major mistake. Its hard not to be sentimental to players sometimes, but he was going to get paid regardless, Vancouver should have been smart enough to know he was past his prime and wasn't worth doubling his salary |

per Bob McKenzie...Anze Kopitar has been Extended for 8 years at 10 million per AAV.
Jesus, that's alot for a 28 year old 65-70 point player. - Whiskey-Tango
Well I guessed the 10 per part.
So that will mean Stamkos gets at least that, right?
10.5 or 11 million
Would you pay it?
Or Lucic 5 years at 6 million and yandle 5 years at 5.5 per |

Its all moot at this juncture. His contract has no effect on the present.
Yes maybe overpaid somewhat but it has effected nothing.
Rebuild ongoing n after this TDL next year cap will look great. |

Too much for Yandle. Lucic too slow for my liking but i can live with him being a Canuck. I like Yandle @4yrs 4.5m |

I agree, it didnt hurt the Canucks at all. I just don't agree with paying players for past performances, they always become difficult to manage under the cap |

Kopitar was going to get 8x from the Kings or 7x as a UFA. Do you think the Kings could have gotten a player as good as Kopitar in trade? I doubt it. |

Maybe so but it's tough to hear the GM's cry whine and b*tch about how long term high dollar deals handcuff teams...yet they hand out full terms with big money like candy. I get the fact that Kopi deserves something for the championships but wow man...that contract will be an issue in 3-5 years regardless of buyout intentions. - LordHumungous
The GM's and owners are hypocrites for sure... But they will continually hand these out ...I think they need to abolish the amnesty rule or at very least alter the rule. |

Every contract is based on past performance. No GM (ok, maybe Kevin Lowe) has paid their player based on what they hope to accomplish. |
