Edler is an easy guy to dislike - VANTEL
I don't dislike him, but think The potential offer we could get for him is much more important than having him on the team. I see Hutton as surpassing Edler by the end of next year offensively, Buff is better option as well. Hammer and Tanev are better defensively so Hammer would be better to keep in top 4 if he had a real partner, like Tanev, to play with. I honestly think his bad play is mostly attributed to needing to cover for Weber all the time in the defensive zone. Wears fast on a player when they have to play as 2 defenders at the same time. |

He has 7 multi point game for the canucks
Points aside, when defenders have a good game, the other team doesn't score... that's about it. It's not real flashy, and it doesn't look great. - neem55
The only reason he's not half way to -40 again. |

Maybe ...maybe not. But 850k is a lot better then 5 million no? Can do a lot with 4 million extra cap space - Bullfrog77
Edler is better than Biega. NO comparison. Biega would look HORRIBLE if he played 25 + mins 82 games a year. |
|
|
|
You think he can do that for 26 minutes a night? honestly? - neem55
Lefty said it a few pages back , top 2 Dmen don't grow on trees. Hard to find one.
I think Biega is a smart Dman and Hutton was a gift. I will be glad when we upgrade on Tanev and Edler. Easy to say, difficult to do. |

Is because he has the most points out of all our defensman? yeah I guess that's true, does that make him bad?
Also, if you look at more interesting metric than +/-, and by interesting I mean relevant to the position of defence, Edler leads the team in corsi, despite playing against top-lines.
This is the second time I've defended Edler like this on this thread, for the record.
what's that 2-3 games out of 40? The guy plays 26-27 minutes a night and we do not have anyone else close to capable of carrying that load, frankly I think he's holding together pretty well for a guy who is not a #1 d-man. |

Being the best Dman on Canucks is like like winning the penis contest at an all lesbian gym.

This is accurate, and I agree. Don't get me wrong I like Hutton and Biega. Maybe they push Bart out of this lineup and certainly Weber (thank (frank)). Sbisa is just pushing 22-23 minutes at 5 years experience, it's the hardest position to play IMO and I always played center myself. Hopefully they land Buff, that would be ideal and he and Edler I think would be an interesting pair as they could not be more different. |

Arguably the least productive offensive blue line in the league. Listen if you can't watch the game and see what a disaster he is in his own zone then there's nothing more I can say... |

Edler plays 6 or 7 more minutes than both and penalty kills, try again. He doesn't play with the Sedins, he plays against the top line. Often this means playing with Horvat line, actually. |

He's a scoring machine and is physical. His +/- and corsi are the only thing keeping him from a norris nod I think. He makes Karlsson look like a defensive stud.
I did hear he has 7 EN against though, that's a fair number. |

We are not saying he doesn't have his short comings. But replacing what he brings, let alone improve on it is not easy. We don't have any dmen better right now. |

I've never said amazing, I've said the best we've got and that he's not a #1 guy. But I'm ok with you being done, you're arguments weren't very strong. I thought you would at least mention that his corsi and +/- have dipped in the past 15 games substatively, but I may have said the team was giving bj's to everyone in december. Either way, ta ta. |

I have a feeling I know what he meant.
I take it he doesn't like Edler. I think he is saying you can find two scrubs to replace him. If he played like last night more would agree.
I don't think he is saying you will find two top Dmen for that salary.
When Edler got injured last time someone stepped in and kept it status quo in his absence.
Edler doesn't play like a top guy so I can see what he is hinting at. - VANTEL
You are correct. He doesn't play like a true number one, can you imagine how good he would look as a number 2 beside let's say, Weber, Keith, Doughty etc. ... if he was at the most a number 2, beat case a number the or for then we wouldn't be complaining about his 5 million salary.
The only way your going to get better production for less money is if you have a player over perform while under contract.
Put it this way, I would rather Edler at 5 million then buff at 7.5 million.
But again I think buff is overrated and will get over paid(he is a decent 2 or 3) for to long of term.
If we could get him for 3 years at 5 million is take it and run.
Put another way(again) Edler or a player like Edler would cost more to sign at this stage of his career then his current contract dictates.
I'm going to ambulance practice soon and will be back to respond to your heckling of my anti buff talk(Vantel) |
