I think they need to continue hiring a new goalie coach every year. It's working great.

There are like 3 goalies better than Reimer/Bernier on this list that are even remotely moveable. Also, won't the goalies be a bit better when the team gets better?

We need to draft a goalie this year with our 2nd or Pitts 1st

We should have already drafted another goalie

We need to do both...draft one and trade for/sign one in the mean time

I already answered this question in yesterday's blog...

1/ Vasilevskiy
2/ Gibson

(both probably non options since Tampa and Gibson have them pencilled in as starting goalies going forward starting next season).

3/ Samsonov

Keep Reimer for the next two years, buy out Bernier.
Next two years go with Reimer & Sparks.

After that Samsonov as starting goalie.

A legit #1 is very hard to come by.. no one was screaming holtbys name a few years ago.. you kinda need to just let them grow with the team and get better over time. I'm fine with Bernier and Reimer going forward. Let's get some better defence.

Vasy has high potential but hasnt really been on top of his game this season, although he missed 3 months with an injury (blood clot).

Next year will show if Vasy can handle 1st goalie minutes. If he can, Bishop will probably be moved. Not because Vasy will be better next year, but for cap reasons. Bish can without a doubt get 6yr/6m on the open market and then Yzerman rather go with a much cheaper Vasy.

Bishop has been our best player this year, and in 2 seasons Toronto is probably gonna contend. It fits the timeline, and Bish will probably be in his prime years by then. He is absolutley a good starting goalie in the NHL.

I feel like our defense needs a whole lot more upgrading before we worry about goaltending besides we already have bibeau who i think is gonna be pretty damn good

you probably won't believe me, but I was.
Same with Bobrovsky during his last year at Philadelphia (.899 save percentage that season).. people on the blogs wanted to keep Reimer instead of trading for Bob and said I was crazy for suggesting a one for one trade reimer-bobrovsky.. (a shame this site lacks proper search function).

I'll say you as well that Quick is not a top NHL goalie; profits of the strong LA team.

Bobrovsky, Holtby, Lundqvist, Schneider, Rask, Price, Rinne, Luongo all better than Quick imo. Quick is on the level of Miller, Halak, Varlamov - good goalies, but not top5 league.

Sure.. and you actually made another point.. great teams can get away with a good but not great goalie.. Crawford is a shining example. We need defence.

They seem to have more long term success then the teams that do it vice versa ala More-eh-al

Crawford is a lot better than given credit for. He's good in big games more often than not.

Leafs need a great goalie to go along with a great team so we can actually hoist a cup in Babcock's 8 years of being a coach.

Babcock's system is already improving our defense, we need more time for things to really come into place. As well as prospects/picks in this regime to ripen and mold into the style of play Babs wants.

it's a process no doubt, we need improvements in every department, just goaltending the most I feel.
