Truthfully, I have no idea where Hodgson went wrong, 2012/13 he looked like a future stud.

That's not the way it always was...he was once considered a Chris Drury clone. Especially on the junior stage, and his first few seasons in the NHL.

Ie. Scouting report when he was drafted:
A good center who can both finish and create plays. Fantastic hockey sense. Good creativity and two-way game. Suffers from his lack of size and has issues with strong defencemen.

Also he's getting 10 minutes a game this season which isn't much. 2 of his 3 goals are game winners.
