Goalies for $200
Answer: Niemi, Crawford, Osgoode
Question: Who are Stanley Cup winning goal tenders that nobody would peg for a Vezina?
We also would have accepted "Who are three people who've never been in my kitchen."
Strong teams win the cup, not goal tenders. Give up nothing of value for a netminder. |

Sure.. and you actually made another point.. great teams can get away with a good but not great goalie.. Crawford is a shining example. We need defence.
They seem to have more long term success then the teams that do it vice versa ala More-eh-al - Arctic_AARDVARK
beg to differ.
a proper top goalie is basis for any stanley cup (run).
the fact that chicago won it with Niemi and Crawford in goal says more about the strength of the rest of the team, but is really not a proof that any team can win it with a 'so so goalie'.
Quick had a superb season 2011-2012, but he's never been able to maintain these numbers in seasons afterwards.

For the past few years I've said the difference between the habs and the buds success is between the pipes. The loss of price has turned the habs into a horrible team.
Finding the right guy for Toronto can have the opposite affect.
I don't think the answer lies in another teams cast off, but somewhere in the minors.
I don't think the leafs currently have a single minor league goalie drafted into the system. They'll have to correct this, this summer, and maybe look to trade for some already drafted goaltender prospects, or go out and try to find the next Eddie Belfour, undrafted guy. |

Maybe future goaltending...but that reeeeally shouldn't be addressed any time soon lol...not to be an advocate of "tanking", but if the team can battle hard like this, develop their players but still lose because of goaltending...win win. |

I'm not ready to say Sparks is not the answer. He's looked real good thus far.
I don't think there's this big rush to find a goalie. It's easier than finding a #1 C or a #1 D.
Reimer has the best save % in the NHL and top 5 in GAA. He's been real good. His issue is health.
If we get a top pick we owe Bernier big time. The Leafs would be in a playoff spot if not for him. |

I dont know about that. Many times a goalie steals a series. |

I think you misread... I said great teams can win with a good goalie.. but teams that build from their goalie out don't seem to fair as well.. Luongo, Lundqvist, Miller have never won cups.

Surprised he ignored Pittsburgh. Goaltending is literally the only position of competence with Fleury, Murray, and Jarry. |

I think you're stretching what I said a little too far. When you get to the playoffs, beyond the first round no teams should be considered "weak". That said, more times than not does a team move to the next round because of superb goaltending. |

Well there you go...no need to write the full article
just ask this guy for the next goalie... - YuenglingJagr
I'll give you a fourth option next to these three: Daniel Vladar (drafted 3rd round 2015 by Boston) |
