Wow massive over payment for Kopitar. Maybe at 5 years, but over 8 years ouch. That will be a bad contract in 5 years for sure.

Here comes another lockout....

What did you expect him to sign for?

8 mil 8 years ?

I consider Toews should earn that kind of money given what he brings to table( leadership, defensive play) other then point producing talent . So it's fair to assume Kane pretty much set the market franchise players.

That being said , I 'm sure the kings will find a way to terminate that contract ( a la Richards) when he's pushing 38.

Which translates in reality to Stamos resigns and Drouin moves at Draft.

“I think Anze Kopitar right now (2014) is the third best player in the National Hockey League only behind Crosby and Toews and he’s getting better every game.
To me, Kopitar’s the guy; he plays defensively, he takes all the key faceoffs, he can get the big goal and make big plays offensively."

~Wayne Gretzky

The one notable difference with Toews - his contract runs out at 35ish.

No way Tampa can afford to keep Stamkos unless he takes a serious discount to stay there...

Kopitar brings all the things Toews does but he's not worthy of it? Kopitar has been runner up to the selke at least twice, 2 cups, has lead the kings in scoring for nearly a decade... and you say he should of got 8 million a year? If you're the Kings do you let him walk for a million or two gap? And then replace him through FA with a player who is not on his level but will still cost 6+? He's getting paid like one of the best players in the league because he is just that

Good for Kopitar; well deserved. Imo Stamkos shouldn't get 10mil per. Yes the Lightning made it to SC, but Stamkos did not win multiple, nor one Cup like Kane, Toewes, and Kopitar. I hope this deal lowers the cost of Stamkos
- arichardson22

well I was thinking the exact opposite when I saw the contract

Goal scorer are the show...so I'm thinking Stamkos will get at least 11M

These people who are saying Kopitar is not deserving of this contract really don't know how Kopitar plays.

Kopitar is good but 10 mil really? he only broke the 80 pts mark once, I guess the kings are paying him for what he does without the puck .

You obviously don't watch him. He's worth that and more!

Seriously guy.

Kopitar is one of the best defensive forwards in the game. Kopitar is also rumored to be Captain next year. But I'll take that FWIW later.

only way Stamkos ends up in Detroit is if he wants to end up in Detroit.
- southpaww82

Definitely don't think he will end up in detroit, but your statement is literally true of all 30 teams.

Read report this morning that Tampa asked Ottawa for Ceci in deal for Drouin and Murray said "no."

Why does this need to denigrate into a Richard measuring contest between Toews and Kopitar?

I would take either/or/both on the Bruins in a second. Morons....
