Really interested to see what happens with Fasching at the end of this college season. Baker seems to think he may sign with the Sabres. If thats the case he could potentially be plugged right into the line up - MCGUIZZY
Most likely because the team is going to be gone at the deadline |

I think he will need a year or two in the AHL. He skating while improved is still not where it needs to be.
Even Vanek spent time in the AHL...granted it was during the lockout but I think that year helped him tremendously - Stripes77
A year tops in the AHL. I dont think he will need alot of time there |

I have high hopes for him but I can't recall any non-first rounder making the jump from the NCAA to the NHL |

Couldn't his stature play into a speedier jump? I agree it with you wholeheartedly, but he is one big boy. Get nursed in on the 4th line? |

Idk but i think his foot speed is fine and he has an NHL frame. He could make a semi seamless transition imo |

If you can't skate you don't make that jump, he has improved for sure but I am not sure if it is enough |

College FA that basically said give a NHL deal or I am signing elsewhere lol
I mean Chad Ruhwedel did the same thing...but that only lasted until the end of the year |

Ive been watching highlights of him lately and I would say his skating looks good. He has a powerful stride. Looks kinda like vanek when he would turn on the jets. I think he will be fine. Better skater than Reinhart I would say (just as a comparable) |

There are a few guys I can think off of the top of my head, Stastny was a 2nd round pick, same as Carle. Denver Pioneers.
Googling tells me Pavelski, 2 years as Wisconsin Badgers, drafted 7th round...what a pick Sharks...had no idea he was a 7th rounder |

So what you are saying is there are a small handful of folks that do it and they are either huge busts or amazing steals. Ok so Stripes has it right, Fasching will most likely need his year. |

I get limited access to watch prospects each year, but the stud out of UNO is Jake Guentzel. Small, speedy creative player (reminds me of an Ennis). Drafted by Pburgh in the 3rd round he could be a solid player for the pens when he graduates.

Lots more, Backes & Keith were 2nd round picks coming out of NCAA. Even your Boy Miller falls into that category. Brian Gionta for more Sabres flavour
Plently of guys who make the NHL that arent NCAA 1st rounders |

oh yeah my bad, just was thinking guys who were non 1st round NCAA picks making NHL impacts,
Keith played over a season in the AHL before coming up. He was Michigan State University, then Kelowna Rockets, then AHL, then Hall of Famer |

however both those guys (Gio and Miller started year in AHL before playing NHL)
so wasnt exactly on point with that list, guys played NHL right after uni, just some AHL time to get their feet wet |
