Nope three is a good number considering our needs. 7....of any position. Bad idea
- Bullfrog77

7 would never happen. One in the first two rounds would be a nice change. 2 in the first three rounds would be even better.

I get nervous about picking D with top 5 picks.
Seems to rarely work out (Bryan Allen, not that he was terrible, but...you know, below expectations).

One of the key indicators IMO is above average skating, another is wether or not they can score.

hahaha Prust and Dorsett... how many fights this year? How many times have you seen then sticking up for guys? How about sending messages? Sorry man, I'd like to see toughness from these two or anybody. Prust is invisible game after game, Dorsett a forechecker that stirs the pot at best.
- neem55

And quite frankly when Dorsett fights...he gets beat up. When Prust fights he just holds on to the other guy so he doesn't get hit. How much toughness are they really providing? Certainly not intimidating anyone.

Fair enough. Our track record isn't the greatest, but Ohlund was a first rounder and we haven't picked many outside of those two and Bourdon. Jovo was a top ten I'm pretty sure.

Agreed, especially in today's NHL you gotta skate. Juolevi and Chychrun are both exceptional skaters. Chychrun is supposed to have elite puck skills...hence

If our last management payed attention to drafting it would not be an issue now
- VANTEL

I don't have as much of an issue with prior mgmt moving picks for players because we were contenders.

And really 2010 was the only year we has basically no picks. I agree Gillis's draft were not great but again as contenders you don't get great shot at it.

So you want no one on this team that provides toughness and fights?
JB felt we needed these guys, I trust him. Remember this is just regular season... they guys will matter big in the Playoffs

This is a problem I see in the fan base (Im not directing this at you)....they beg and beg for toughness ...they scream how the team is weak blah blah blah. We get a couple guys and everyone wants them gone. It a stupid retarded cycle of b i tching in the vancouver fan base.
Complain you dont have something and then once you get it complain about him the whole time. So lets say we get rid of them....the B i tching will be that we let them go for nothing or didnt get enough return or how dare we trade our toughness.

the complaining just NEVER ENDS no matter what happens.

Im really starting to wonder if this forum is filled with a bunch of cranky old women in menopause that havent had any sausage in years

- SMBDragon

I completely agree with this, the problem is, we need toughness throughout the lineup, not just one or two guys who can barely keep up. Prust and Dorsett are good for what they are (4th line energy guys) but you need more than that. They need to be able to skate, hit and score as well or else other teams won't be afraid of them.

more toughness than we had previously...that was the point of getting them.
the point also isnt who wins the fights its that teams are less likely to take shots if they have to end up fighting, which we had teams taking shots at us before.

Prust gave marchand a message... and voiced his pleasure in it later too. No more shots on us later

plus dorsett can actually play too

that seems pretty irrelevent. Were talking about top d picks that have been good, that one sure worked out for us. There really is no reason not to pick one unless we ein the lotto and can take Matthews.

There is no reason at all. Our D prospect depth is atrocious.

Really?! I've been pretty unimpressed with Dorsett, wins puck battles but has got bricks for hands. I prefer him to Prust though. Looking forward to Sutter back in

Yup and Gaunce, Shink Subban who I think will be players at some point in the NHL. I'm not one who thought Gillis's did terrible, underwhelming for sure but considering when he picked not as bad as some play it up.

Ill admit I havent really noticed prusts play much...perhaps he is getting low low minutes.

I do like dorsett. He hits, sticks up for the team quickly and can actually play. Scores goals, playmakes. A keeper

I think prust can be a good shadow guy in playoffs. we shall see what happens

He also overhauled the scouting department somewhat which seems like it may have paid some dividends later on. As previously mentioned, we sold off picks for a run or two at the cup. I'm ok with that considering the situation we were in.

Not bad 8 years in office 3 players on the club

Benning has 2 from his first draft playing. Again the reason Benning has to use 2 seconds was to fill holes left by Gillis
