I am officially scared of what Lehner's contract is going to be considering the hard on Murray has for him. |

4M+ to a goalie at 8-13-3 seems odd.
Has he been really strong since going to the Oil or something? Seems early to sign such a contract. - RhinoFan
He has been up/down all season. Overall CJ has better numbers than he does though. |

Lehner has ZERO leverage right now. Injuries and inconsistent play don't give him anything to stand on. He is still locked in at 2.25M for all of next season too. CJ is playing good. Ullmark is playing good. Lehner has NOTHING to use. |

No trade clause as well. Hell of a contract for a guy that's been the 1B of a 1A/1B tandem most of the year. - chilliard77

He's been a little tear lately, but Nilsson had more of the starts early on. |

I cheated and went to an old Oiler's blog site that I used to frequent in the McEichel days...they seemed to say the same thing. They were more upset over the NTC. |

Price of a UFA goalie of similar pedigree. If they don't pay him that, they have to pay 4m to get Reimer (probably best UFA goalie this year). Hiller, Neimi, etc when those average starters hit the market, its a 4m price tag
Its a fair market value deal for him |

Exactly. It's become boring and tiresome to read all the tired comments after every contract is signed regarding how much the contract sucks. |

I disagree. Reimer is having a season to die for, and has past starting experience. Hiller has fallen very far this last year but was a starter at the time, and Niemi is a fairly serviceable starter and has been for many years. This is Talbot's first time not in a backup role, I say that because he hasn't even been Edmonton's starter this year. He's split the crease with Nilsson. Up until recently he was struggling even in that role. I think it's way too early to pay him average starter money when he hasn't proven to be much more than a 1B up until this point. |

Hiller signed 4.5m with the Flames after putting up .911% 2.48
Neimi signed 4.5m with the Stars after putting up .914% 2.59
Talbot is putting up .914% 2.58 currently. If you don't think he would be getting similar deals to those goalie who hit UFA, you are fooling yourself
Like I said, they would be spending at least 4m regardless, Reimer is have a strong season and will cash in more around 5m+ if he even gets to Market. |

I think the problem is you shouldn't really pay that for goaltending. Better off investing in your team and plugging in a goaltender on a cheaper deal (Greiss). Year to year these goalies go up and down in league rankings mostly based on the performance on the team in front of them. So unless you're getting one of the top 5 why bother? |

Yes they have comparable stats, but look at the role they play on the team and their prior experience. If it was all about the stats they put up, by that logic, then Michal Neuvirth should be getting paid 7m+. |

If Talbot was Edmonton's starter all year and put up those stats, then 4mil would be very fair. But my point is, he hasn't been the starter a majority of the time and he's getting paid starting money. |

Hiller signed at 32 years old, Neimi signed at 32 years old.
Talbot is 28 so there is still more time for him to round into shape. Those guys really weren't putting up starter numbers until they were 27-28 years old either.
Its not a great deal, I'm just saying its a fair deal. They didn't get a hometown discount or anything just paid market price |

The deal could very well work out for them and he turns into a decent starter. But paying for small sample sizes is very risky, and that risk is magnified by the full NMC in the first two years of the contract. |

The money is fine I think, to get any sort of notable starter like goalie in UFA, its going to be around 4m regardless.
Its the NMC that could be an anchor. |

So how was Pysyk? I saw he had just 15 min and a couple minor penalties. Rusty? |

Solid as per usual. Got in the box more than normal, but may need a couple adjustment games. He had a couple real good plays. |

We beat the Caps outright but I don't get backing down in the neutral zone and giving them entry before we attach on D? Makes no sense especially against a team with so much fire power. |

Holy hell this is perfect. You could even say that it might justify giving up a little extra to acquire a goalie thats cost controlled, so you have a little extra scratch to use on the players in front of him! |

Don't want to get caught flat footed, they're a very fast team and we're...well not. |

I'd actually like to see them attack the D more prior to the red line so they don't get the free dump in to play dump and chase. |

The other day I got one of those Dominik Hasek mini banners they gave out the night his jersey number was retired. It's pretty cool |
