The thing is, Umberger isn't hurting the team. He's not really helping a bunch, but he's not a liability out there. That's why he plays, despite limited production. The coach feels he can rely on Umberger to not hurt the team with risky or stupid plays.

Not that many REAL hockey fans were going to watch the game anyways (though the draft was entertaining). I will be boycotting the All-Star game and ask others to do the same. The league really messed this one up- big time. I'm a fan of the game (at any level) not the mess that makes up professional sports leagues.

Most importantly, the NHL failed Scott. They took a surprisingly heartwarming moment and story for the sport and obliterated it out of pettiness and pride for a fake hockey game, causing real-life consequences for a low-paid player and his growing family.

The idea that this is taking money out of this dude's pocket when, by rights, the fan vote put it there is nauseating. I want someone (the NHLPA, Gary Bettman, whoever) to write John Scott a check for this nonsense.

When the highlights of the All Star Game are: Guys getting drunk during the fantasy draft and trading Phil Kessel & Jake Voracek using Johnny Gaudreau as a prop during the skills competition, then it's pretty much a waste of time.
