Yeah, Umberger can or at least could. I think Voracek would be a good PK guy as well, but like Giroux you don't want to overuse a key offensive guy on PK
- Jsaquella

They usually only use Giroux in the beginning for the face-off. He's typically of the ice on the first clear.

Leads me to my next thought, the Flyers are the worst ever at clearing the puck on a PK. Thats the only area I miss Grossmann. He could send an outlet pass to the blue line and Karlsson wouldn't be able to hold it in.

They are awful at clearing the zone sometimes. It's like they get the puck and get all giddy, then fire it blindly.

Could it be for draws that White gets time on the PK?
- SuperSchennBros

Yes and no. He doesn't get off after a draw. He stays out there for normal shifts as a third pair guy.

That's actually awesome haha. He did that to Doughty AND Kopitar it looks like. That's impressive. Three years younger and I'd be a Buff endorser

I still remember a hit he gave to Pronger in the 2010 final

Watched Pronger play a lot over his career. Never before or after did I ever see him get drilled like Byfuglien did

I think he could too, but I get it. Short handed goal numbers would skyrocket. It bugs me that VDV has 25 (!) more minutes than Coots. That's nonsense. Hak overuses him and Pebbles in every facet of the game. He's not Bergeron. Coincidentally, we have a Bergeron-lite who could be used like that....

The PK is among the worst in the league two years in a row. Clearly something is wrong. You'd think stuff like that would be easy to identify as a coach. Surprisingly Manning is a good PKer. It's another reason I could see him getting in the lineup again. And Schultz-Gudas together can be brutal with botched coverages back to your other point

Morin-Buff

That would be the scariest duo in the NHL. 100 CF% because no one would dare enter their side of the ice

I think it's interesting the Flyers turnaround. What I mean is, the Flyers always lived and died by their special teams, especially the power play. It's their even strength play that was always a concern. Now it's the complete opposite. We're not perfect 5 on 5 but we're better.

That's my big issue with Gudas=Schultz together. So prone to leaving the front of the net open.

I do wonder how much of the usage is really Hakstol and how much he is leaning on his assistants to help him adjust to the NHL. It's not really an indictment, but we're still seeing odd usage patterns that sort of ape last season, and Hakstol wasn;t here then, so....

I like Buff because if he's not bringing it on D, we can move him to the wing. I just don't wanna trade anything for him.

I really do like him though. Right handed shot and a legit top pairing guy. He's 30 years old and moves pretty well. I feel like he'd be such a hot commodity if not for the off ice stuff and perception.

I think that's a lot on Hakstol. Coaching means a ton at 5 v 5 and in possession. Flyers have been trending up the last two months too. Look at Toronto and Babcock. Among worst teams and possession teams in all of the NHL years running. Now? Night and day, even if they're still a mediocre team in rebuild. He isn't a magician who waves his wand. He runs an elite system. I think with some more horses and experience, Hak can run an elite system.

I do too. His contract is going to be scary though. Would you do a 5 year deal with him? (Odds are he could get more too)

If I thought he'd keep himself in shape for four or five years, I'd take a deep breath and do it

I just don't think he's going to do that. Don't know that for sure, obviously, but I think he's going to cash out and get huge

Personally I think we lack in certain areas because we collect certain players from anywhere in the world and hope for the best. I think we could use a specialist(s) on this team. Raffl, Bellemare and Medvedev weren't exactly groomed since childhood to play in the NHL and not saying they are bad players, they're not but you get what you pay for.

I'm waiting to see the spending part of things now that Hextall is the head man in office.
