A couple random things I noticed:
1. Thought that was the best Streit moved and played all season, and he's been getting stronger by the game. Don't know what the numbers say, but the eye-test looked good to me last night
2. Michael Raffl was strong, kept his feet moving all game
I think that Detroit played its system really well last night, and while the Flyers were outplayed, the fact that they got a point to begin with and got the bonus in the gimmick, after catching that five-minute major to start, makes me feel so much hope that they are going to the playoffs, I am lightheaded
Because I know this team isn't a finished product and that next year is likely going to be the start of something that could be special
But it freaking sucks that they have been missing the playoffs and I want them to make it NOW |

If they are going to make the playoffs, games like tomorrow against the Leafs are must wins. They cannot afford to give away points against weaker opponents as they so often have done during the last few years. |

The boys are rolling! Great exciting game and win. I hope Jake and G look just as good when they are Zetterberg and Datsyuk's age. Man those guys still play at a high level. Could have sworn Zetterberg was going to snipe one pass Neuvirth. I'm really loving the Hakstol hiring at this point in the season. He has our team as one. We finally are forming an identity and it's exciting hockey to watch. All year we have, myself included, been jokingly expecting a great draft pick but at this point we actually look like a team that is knocking on the playoff door. |

Agreed, the Leafs really blow there is NO way they should loose to that team.
Two things I would like to see for the game
1) Neuvirth back in the pipes
2) Weal
Would also like RJ gone but won't happen ( especially with White's status in the air) |

Completely agree with you. They have been looking like a coached team lately.
They still have a lot of anchors on this team, but the ship is sailing in the right direction.
Even if they don't make playoffs, the team has finally become exciting to watch again, and the fans have something to look forward to. |

did not get to see this game, and only saw hi-lites. based on the single live-view angle available, not only is the interference and penalty on simmonds bullpoop, the no-goal call was bullpoop. and if anything, mrazek should have been called for diving.
simmonds had position, was completely outside the crease, contact was incidental, minimal and did not prevent mrazek from making the save, and the (frank)ing flop was after the (frank)ing fact.
terrible call by dave jackson, and i disagree with the war room.
now...if there is some other angle that i haven't been able to see, which clearly shows the opposite of all of that, fine. i'd love to see it.
(frank)ing garbage.
- Hammarby31
There is zero doubt that the goal should have been disallowed. Simmonds almost knocked his mask off. You can argue that a penalty should not have been called, but the disallowed goal was the right call.
Simmonds having position simply doesn't matter. |

In Mason's last three starts, he shut out the Islanders, outplayed Rask and matched Henrik Lundqvist save for save on a day where both had their "A" game going. Neuvirth was just as stellar against Mrazek on a night where they, too, where both in great grooves but the only reason Neuvirth started was because of the b2b. It wouldn't be a travesty to give Neuvirth the Toronto game -- and certainly he has earned at least one more start before the All-Star break, such as the game against his former Caps team -- but Mason is on a roll and deserves Tuesday's start, IMO. |

They really have been. They look like a real team and their confidence and chemistry is something I haven't really seen at a level this high since Lav's days as a coach. |

Mason has been been playing well no doubt, he just seems to let in more "soft" goals than Neuvirth. I think there is 5 games before the break, I would like to see Neuvirth have at least 2

Nothing describes "Monday AM" better than the phrase "Fungal infection".
Good luck with classes, sir. We're all counting on you. |

Paul Stewart's blog is about the calls last night. He doesn't offer an opinion on what he would have done or called, but I think it's a good read. |

He simply points out the ambiguity of the NHL rulebook that we all know is there. As a former referee, rather than just complaining all the time about the NHL, why not offer a solution?

I thought he did, with the question of the 10-inch tablets vs. larger screens for the officals, as well as noting that there may not be trained officials helping to review plays
Yes, he was snarky about it, but there are solutions offered in there, and again, he didn't throw Dave Jackson or the actual calls under the bus |

If they come out and smash a hapless Toronto team, I'll buy them as a playoff team. I'm still a bit worried of a let down. |

I liked the broadcast team of Gord Miller, and Ray Ferraro last night. I hope NBC uses them for the playoffs. |

the other replay angles do show the contact with the head better. it's hard to tell if he pulls to the right on his own after the contact or if his head really turns due to the contact itself. i get the call....ok...but i don't agree with it at all....certainly not the penalty to simmonds. that's (frank)ing absurd. - hammarby31
I think you have to call both plays the same. Simmonds interference with the goaltender certainly was incidental, as was the Red Wings player knocking into Neuvirth's catching glove. The fact that Simmonds received a penalty on top of the goal being disallowed was absurd. |
