Bottom line is that it was an entertaining game, made even better because the flyers won. Even better so because they won in overtime.
But the point is that more often then not, their games are entertaining to watch again. They seem to have become comfortable with Hakstol's system and are playing well within their roles.
Coots has stepped up his game greatly, finally beginning to show what was expected of him, making the second line a dangerous one . Ghost has added a dynamic to the backend that we've never seen (with all due respects to Mark Howe). The D side of the puck has tightened up considerably and both of the #1 and #1a goaltenders have player very well.
The rules are what they are and some still need to be tightened up. But the NHL has always had difficult time addressing those which are simply poorly written - by most accounts - and have failed to adequately clarify them when attempting to do so.
Understood the game moves at a tremendous pace on the ice and it's difficult to see everything clearly down there at real speed, like the White hit, but the goalie interference calls have been one that has always made me cringe. And Jones' on-air explanation of the rule further exemplifies the murkiness of it.
If a player establishes his position outside the blue paint, and if the goaltender moves out to cause the contact, it should be no penalty. Simmonds clearly got to a legal position before Mrazek. It should be goalies beware it they choose to slide out of the paint toward the player to get a better sight line or angle.
My opinion on White's hit was that is was shoulder to chest, or at the very least an attempt to do so, further evidenced by Jurco(?) not missing a shift. The bigger question was whether it was, what they like to call, predatory. It was a half a second after the puck was passed, but the skater was in a vulnerable position when checked. It was clean (shoulder to chest) but dangerous. That, I believe, will be the problem. |

I just saw the White hit on Jurco. If nothing else, it's what I'd call "predatory." It was a hit that didn't need to happen and was not made to separate the player from the puck, more to try to pulverize a defenseless player. His left skate didn't leave the ice, so he didn't pull a Downie. Although I don't think it was any worse than a lot of Kronwall's hits, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a 2-3 game vacation. |

Is it me or has ghost done that little steal in the neitral zone for a breakaway/oddman rush in about three games in a row now? Man he is dangerous offensively.

White has a predatory hit in his past that got him 5 if they escalate it ... we could be looking at 8-10 |

I was a big white fan at first, but now I'm just so so with him, so I wouldn't mind getting a chance to see weal in there for a few games. |

Ghost is crazy aggressive. Any time he feels like he can get to a puck, he goes for it. It;s exciting as hell watching him play, but he's always going to be a guy who is risky, much like his spin-o-rama/fall/leg kick sequence against NYR. With him, that's always going to be an issue, but I'd rather have him being aggressive and taking (smart) chances because, if he doesn't, he won't be effective. |

White went on a little offensive mini-streak when he got healthy last season. This year, he's back to dime-a-dozen 4th liner. Nothing special, nothing bad. Could take or leave him. |

I'm not sure what you're looking at. Every replay I've seen is a shoulder to the jaw of Jurco. It's not a clean hit.

yup. and with the way the team has been playing as a whole, I don't think his physical edge and "spark" as important anymore. It seems like everyone is finding that fire in their game finally. |

Teams are onto that spin move. Last couple of times, it's led to turnovers. Like you said, high risk, high reward. As he get's more experience, he'll make better choices.
