Doesn't make any sense, how do you know the head wasn't targeted? How is Jurco not missing a shift evidence that the head wasn't targeted? Secondly, I watched the broadcast, and Ray Ferraro clearly called it a head shot. Lastly, and most importantly, replays show that the head was clearly the principal point of contact.
Ferraro said and I quote " the hit is directly to the head, the jaw of Thomas Jurco"
Here is the link, complete with audio.

Good question. How do you know it was? Because Ray Ferraro said it was?
Who exactly is Ray Ferraro except some guy who you parrot opinions from? |

Well, you can quibble over .2 seconds, but no matter what, that type of hit is uncalled for.
edit: also the way he exploded up into Jurco was not necessary, a simple shoulder to shoulder hit would have been more than sufficient. - BiggE

Agree 100%. That kind of predatory hit, on a vulnerable player, is the kind of hit that needs to be removed. If you see a player in that situation, need to let up. It's hard because these players have played this way all their lives. If you see that opportunity, you lay the guy out. It's the culture change that I've posted about many times, that needs to happen.

There are replays of the hit, where it is obvious, that it was a hit to the head. My opinion of the play, is based on what actually happened, and not what someone else has said.
I do not know if it was intentional or not, but that doesn't really matter. I do think calling it a match penalty was a reach, but definitely a 5 minute major and worthy of a suspension.
Ferraro's comments were offered in rebuttal to your post of "The same thing others were looking at, including the NBC team, so obviously what you observed wasn't the overwhelming take on the issue."
What evidence can you offer that it was not a direct head shot? |

White's lucky it's not up to me, because I actually like him more than most and he'd still be sitting for a stretch -- longer than he'd think -- if it was my call, because it was a garbage hit

So today's topic of argument is whether White hit Jurco in the head?
The real problem, as I see it, is that the hit was also late, and, as we see way too often in the NHL, it shows a complete lack of respect for another player. You can talk about how violent the game was back in the 70s all you want, but one thing you didn't see were guys trying to drill one another in the head. White should absolutely get suspended, these type of hits have no place in the game.
Now, as far as the call on Simmonds at the end of regulation, that was B.S. I have no problem with waiving off the goal, Simmonds did make contact with the goalie, and, while he may not have been fully in the crease, he was certainly on the edge. However, I don't think it warranted a penalty as the contact was clearly accidental.
Oh well, any game refereed by Dave Jackson is going to be a horror show, he is one of the worst refs that I have ever seen and I've been watching the NHL for nearly half a century. - BiggE
Agree.
The attempted targeting to the head was questionable at best. If suspended, it should be because of the hit while Jurco was vulnerable.

If the NHL was really serious about eliminating that kind of hit, they would. Have to change the culture.

NHL dropped the ball. They got this one wrong. This is why these kind of hits are going to continue.

I'd sit White anyway for being stupid and taking a 5 minute major. And also putting your team down a forward 3 minutes into the game. Of course, it's not up to me and White seems to be a favorite of Hakstol. |

It's the NHL, things don't make sense. That's the exact kind of hit that has to be removed from the game.

The NHL has, and apparently continues, to put too much stock into whether or not the player on the receiving end of the hit was injured |

White made a mistake, I'd still sit the guy who has a 4.5 million dollar cap hit and is goalless in 50 straight games. Unfathomable a player can do that. |
