I agree with narrowing down All-Star choices to vote in. That isn't hard.
I'm intrigued to see a 3 on 3 All-Star game, but the number of players chosen seem really off. 8 goalies is way too many when only 12 d-men get to go. I'd go back to two conferences.
Put the All-Star game outside and eliminate the garbage "Winter Classic". The All-Star game is already garbage hockey so put it outside. You'll still sell out the event. Stop taking a regular season game that means something and turning it into a sideshow, which the All-Star game is.
I wouldn't eliminate the game. Kids really love the spectacle. I remember I was excited for them at one time.

I was actually hoping they would make the 3-on-3 tournament like the tennis championships where there are several matches/games going on (played on smaller rinks), have general admission and let the crowds wander around or follow their favourite player and interact a bit with the players as they move from rink to rink. That is an event I would go attend even without kids. Either use exciting multi-rink facilities or use the fancy outdoor rink equipment to put 3-4 rinks on an open area
