The odds of winning a cup even with a good team aren't great, doing it with a goalie winning 4 rounds on his own is very unlikely. Possible, but there's a good chance you go 0 for 7 in that scenario - ehabs9
Came close once already... a little offense would of made a world of difference the last 3 years! Halak almost did it with a team far worse than this one... the plan has been the same all along |

Sorry but as long as Price is here, they won't be able to rebuild the proper way. You will get late picks that probably won't amount to a while lot in the nhl. |

yes that's fine but then you need to find another way to fill the holes in your lineup.
you can't make up for passing on Benn and Pavelski by picking up Byron. - dt99999

Ok, so I just wanna make sure I'm following here.
Their drafting is goodd and all that is needed is more time for players to develop.
We can't expect Bergevin to improve the roster via trades, because it's too hard.
Price goes down and all of a sudden we all realize the team stinks.
Conclusion: Fire Therrien, he sucks.

Ya, not saying they won't get different degrees of close. But winning it all is very unlikely. It's not a great plan. |

yeah but then again you'll have a great goalie who gives you a chance to win.
should they get rid of price so they can suck for 7 more years and be able to redraft a great goalie?
fact is he took a team that had Price, Pacioretty, Subban, Plekanec, a younger Markov and some others, that's a solid core and a 3rd round pick in hand, Galagher already drafted.
4 years later he still has that same core but they're older and somehow pooptier and he's added NOTHING to it |

Habs have the one player in the league who is the most likely to win a cup almost on his own, build around that until he can't anymore |

Don't disagree.
But of the 30 teams, how many are making big impact trades? Few.
That is the reality of parity, the loser point (everyone closer to playoffs than they should be) and the cap.
Nothing is going to change.
So either pull and Oilers and set yourself up for the next 10-12 years or deal with reality. |

It's the pressure of being in Montreal. Would the fan base allow 4 ot 5 awful seasons to rebuild properly? After year 2 of being near the bottom, the fans would get impatient and demand to speed up the process. |

That's why his absence this year makes tanking a MUST!
Pittsburgh and Chicago wouldn't have accomplished so much in the past decade without a few years of real suckage. |

You know who's almost as good as Price? Holtby. You know what roster is 10x better than the Habs? Washington. Don't see them ever getting past the Caps, nor any team from the West should they some how manage to |
