According to the blog Danslescoulisses, the 37 year-old defender’s poor performances could be linked to events in his private life.

The Russian and his girlfriend, Caroline Montes, ended their relationship recently, and without specifying the reason for the split, DLC reports that Markov might be the one to blame.

24 hours before the game against the Bruins, he allegedly asked his girlfriend to marry him, hoping that it would reunite them, but she refused. Curiously, he had one of his worst games of the season and was booed by the Bell Centre crowd.

Obviously, this does not excuse everything, but one can understand why the veteran defender is not currently on his game.

Hopefully he will be able to get through this ordeal quickly.
