I would be immensely happy if Vancouver went after Stamkos. He would be a good fit on the current line up and fill a role when the Sedins retire. We have the space. - thundachunk
Not too often players of Stamkos' ilk are available via ufa, in their prime. Just the price tag is a bit much, but you aren't giving up assets to land him.
All of a sudden we are really deep at centre and JB has to figure out how to turn that depth into a top 2 dman.
I wouldn't bet on Stamkos signing here, would be interesting if he went to the Panthers though... |

If we got stamkos we could easily send a decent forward prospect not named horvat for a d |

I wonder (though highly highly doubt it) if he is considering a 1 year deal similar to Hossa before he cashed in with Chicago. Apparently he really wants to win, he could take one season to load up on a contender for a shot to win and then sign with a project team and help them build towards a cup |

I like Horvat, but it all depends on the return. Can't be in a position like Edmonton with all the potential among the young forwards and too gun shy to pull the trigger on a trade.
Imagine what Seth Jones would have looked like on their blue line?
Anyway, Horvat is the last guy I'd wish to see, first out the door, in a trade like that. and not saying Horvat would have landed Jones. |

Horvat IMO has shown he is not tradeable. Future captain and if a move like that backfires that would get Benning fired...never happen.
EDM pitched RNH for Seth Jones and Nashville chose Johansen. |

It is difficult to make trades.
I like Bo. Just saying, you have to give to get. Has to be the right deal though.
You look at Edmonton, going through the gm's, I wonder how many deals they turned down where they totally missed the boat? Tough decisions. |

It has being proven time and again in a lot of different sports, that great players make mediocre Management or coaches.
Yzerman was a team guy. Played his entire career for 1 team. Had chances to leave for more money but took lees to stay with the team and help them win. Now he is running into guys that are "me first" and he does not know how to deal with them. Avs are declining for the similar reason. Mediocre players make great coaches and GM's - Linden_4_Capt
I wouldn't doubt that. Different perspectives of the game and team dynamics. Must be hard not to compare yourself to your players too. |

If you have Stamkos then it would be time to move the you know who's .
I am not at all against having a first line of Stamkos Drouin Hansen. Followed with a Bo Sven Sutter second line. Etem Vey JV third line. |

Ya I agree on EDM if I was an Oiler fan I'd be pretty frustrated Chiarelli hasn't found a way to make a deal yet. But with Yak Kassian and Machaysus all coming back before TDL maybe they think it's the same as a good trade?
I get that trades are super tough. But they need D so bad. Teams from the east have called on Eberle and RNH multiple times I'm sure...weird they haven't been able to make something happen. Especially when Hamonic named EDM as a place he would play

If it did happen (and I don't think will) wouldn't the idea be to have Stamkos play here while the Sedins are still here?
Not sure how we would shore p the D with all those big contracts |

Cooper is the guy who ultimetly decides who plays with who, position and how much ice they see. Something tells me he is not in some players good books, it's a little telling that Stammer is not signed at this point. I think this is a much bigger piece than any Yzerman/drouin problem. - neem55
Yup that was my thoughts from the start. Yzerman should have got involved and put it to rest one way or another 4 months ago and now he has this mess to deal with. |

For thos who are hell bent that it will not /could not happen , once you remove Hamhuis Bartowski, Prust Weber Cracknell Vrbata and Higgins , that is 16 mil in cap space. If you could trade Burrows and Miller that makes 26 million. Who else would have that cap space with most positions filled?
We pretty well have everyone signed that is coming back just a few minor contracts.
If JB wants to go after the top fish , he has the money to do it. It cost only salary, no picks , no prospects. |

To me if you sign Stamkos you keep the sedins. Rebuild is over and start to add and go all in for the cup. You do waht you can to add Dmen with some of the prospectswe have. |
