It's all basic stuff, and it's not revolutionary. LA Kings have run center breakouts for years successfully. An article was linked earlier today on how Carolina uses the center of the ice on breakouts. It's stuff that has been in hockey for years and years. If you want to use the center of the ice, need to have defenseman who are good with the puck.

I don't know the history of it so I won't go there, but I'll just say Bill Peters was an assistant coach in Detroit for....guess who? He learned from the best.

Whether it's original isn't the point -- the point is that there are still plenty of coaches who think the game old. Berube was a chip out coach who urged up the boards and out. Hakstol urges center of ice exits a lot more.

Corsi is a result, not a process; it's a byproduct of a multitude of things. It's a red flag or a thumbs up, not an explanation. The other stats are what help explain along with the eye. Babcock goes to the Leafs and their star players have their possession stats SOAR using a worse roster. Babcock isn't a magician (he kinda is actually, but no spells or dragons are involved); Babcock knows good hockey and runs a phenomenal system. Good hockey by the eye = good Corsi.

Everybody! A center breakout is not exactly new territory. There is nothing that any NHL coach today, employs system wise that is proprietary, or that hasn't been learned from other coaches, and leagues such as the Europeans.
