Missed the game but dear god?? 0 for 10? I haven't seen anything from him in recent times. Maybe he should be scratched for a few here. - Hextall271
Not saying he had a great game, but he did have a couple of standout points....when he moved around thru the middle of the ice and found a wide open Umberger specifically stands out to me. |

RJ is by no means the cause for this team to loose games but on the other hand he offers ZERO contribution. Matt Read was a healthy scratch for a game, but it is amazing how RJ keeps escaping the Popcorn suite.
If they are not going to give Weal a shot anytime soon I would rather see Gagner in the lineup. At least he can skate and shoot. I am sure the Flyers could find a better way to use RJ 10 minutes or so on a nightly basis |

I would rather see Weal before Gagner, and probably Umberger before Gagner. I prefer my bottom six to provide quality defensive play with a bit of offensive pop. To me, Gagner is not a bottom 6 player (not particularly a good top 6 player either), his skating is subpar and his defense is suspect. Just my personal opinion.

I can't stand Vandevelde and Umberger. They are the place offense goes to die. I know they are good soldiers but come on. Umberger had a limp Richard wrister and Vandevelde seems to never creates offense. |

Clearly showing that defense isn't our weakness right now.
We have 2 -4th lines.
Can't compete this way unless you have the 85 Oilers first 2 lines.

Can we ditch a couple D and get Morin and Alt up in a month or two? - mayorofangrytown
No, this isn't the issue.
Ditch White, & Umberger, and get Cousins, & Straka up. |

Last night, the top two lines and the top defense pairing is why the Flyers lost the game. And the PK |

Now your going to argue the bottom 6 has competitive skill?
Another forward, or 2 with hands & skates is required
Like this isn't obvious?
Please go away. |

What happened to Gagner?! I remember seeing highlight goal after highlight goal in his first few seasons. Always looked like a solid 2 way player, and showed tons of promise! He completely lost it, and is still young too. He looked terrible last night to say the least. |

Saying the top 2 lines lost the game, duh, we have no 3rd line to help out
2- 4th lines will not help anything.
So blame the loss on the only 4 players with skill up front?
Go pick your daily argument with someone else. |

I didn't mention anything about the bottom 6. The biggest reason by far that the Flyers lost that game was that the Flyers top players, their top line, and top defense pair in particular, got drastically outplayed by the Pens top players. The top 2 lines were on the ice for both ES goals against. The other main reason was the PK giving up 2 goals.

When your team is playing the 4th game in 6 nights, and you are forced to overplay the 1st line because you lack depth, it's hard to expect any different result than what we saw last night. Losing Couturier is just huge for this team. He is their best two way center, one of the top possession guys, a key penalty killer, is basically a 3rd Dman in the D zone, and a guy who can eat up minutes and match up against anyone. If he's out for more than a game or two, any chance of making the playoffs is likely over. |

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Flyers, because it's all they have right now, are forced to use that pairing as their top pair. In reality they are an ok 2nd pairing. Take away having Couturier to help with the matchups against top lines, and it's inevitable that they would be exposed. With everyone healthy, this team has less than a 50/50 shot of making the playoffs. Take away a key player like Couturier, and that drops to pretty much no chance whatsoever.

Didn't the Flyers top line account for 2 of the 3 goals that were scored? I mean god forbid the bottom 6 contribute anything. |

Top-six actually didn't play badly. Bottom-six got caved.
Top-pair had their worst night of the season -- not surprisingly, considered who they were up against and the schedule. |

I thought Gagner had a pretty strong game. If he comes out of the lineup when Couturier comes back, while Umberger, Laughton, VdV and White remain untouchable, I have a stamp ready for Hakstol's hand.

Exactly. Can't be a one line team, or even a two line team in today's NHL. Flyers have 4 or 5 players up front who provide zero offense. Can't be a good team with that lack of depth. |
