Expect Benning to offer 10 mil 7 years

He already has 20 goals . What's wrong with that?

- VANTEL

Look at the contract Kopitar just signed. Stammer is going to get AT LEAST $10M a year. He might even be traded at the draft so a team could offer him that 8 year contract before july 1.

The question becomes for 7 yrs how much is he worth to any franchise?
And let's say the canucks paid the most for him: $80M for the next 7 years... who's he gonna play with? Do you think Steven Stamkos is going to sign here to play with Sven Baertchi and Jake Virtanen? Maybe it's my astigmatism but I just don't see it happening. This team is fine up the middle until hank retires.

I wouldnt want to offer any ufa a contract more than 5 years in length but you have to make RW and D a priority this offseason.

Surprisingly, many fans in and around TO have come on board with Shanny's plan and are seemingly willing to be patient. Having an AHL team packed with young players who are doing very well seems to help.

Also, while the media in TO is pretty bad, I wouldn't call the fans media driven... TBH most fans I know can't stand the majority of the Toronto media, and with good reason.

We'll see, a lot will depend on Rogers and whether or not they'll give Shanny time to do his thing or force him to try and pick up a Stamkos or someone similar in a trade or FA to speed up the process and ruining the chemistry you have going.

Funny enough, Stamkos is signing in Toronto. I've got it on a really good source that he wants to go home and be a God. Huge endorsements and if he ever brought the Leafs a cup...

However, that team is just awful right now.

There'll always be pressure to win, but luckily it seems that Shanny has autonomy over these decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if they did still go after Stamkos though if he's available; the kids won't need to be paid for a while, and he's the kind of player they'll want them to learn from.

Absolutely awful. There's some great prospects on the horizon though; just gotta get the future D sorted so that we don't become the Oilers...

And I've never seen an organization with zero cups have such a sense of entitlement

Not flagged because I feel sorry for you. Your roster is easily the worst in the NHL and you future rides on two smurfs in Nylander and Marner.....your team has no future and I feel for you Leafs fans as you are extremely loyal

Yo Dragon. You gotta rethink this thought.

I cant think of a single #1 D that is 25 or less. I could be wrong, who would that be though??

Id put it more around 27.

wow. They are all #1's?
Hedman yes. So hedman is valid

Jones and Jusi were certainly behind S. Weber in nashville

Yes they are all number ones, that's why I put them on the list.

Jones is number one in Columbus, does that not count?

Just because they are behind on the depth chart doesn't make them any less a #1. If Weber was gone Josi would be qa solid #1 to replace him. Nashville is lucky with 2x #1 dmen.

Josi>Weber. I said it. statistically it's just a straight up fact that he has been the past season and a half. Weber defiently brings a lot of qualities though, some that Josi doesn't have but if I'm trading for either one it's Josi 10 out of 10 times.

These guys are not #1 D's.
Top 4 i'll give you.
And i'm on the fence with Risto and Klinberg.

Hedman, OEL, Ekblad and Josi look to be/are #1's.

Risto and Faulk are right now playing #1, Risto is killing it for me in my pool good all around guy. mUch as I dislike Calgary, Brodie also has legit #1 written all over him. Hamilton maybe not at this point. Ekblad will be by next year.

Ok, but what are we talking about here then...
They are playing #1 D on a crappy team (Edler)
Or are true #1's behind other #1's (Josi and Weber)
??

Doesn't make much sense if we're including both concepts of #1.
I was operating under, is a legit top 30 Dman in entire league.

For me Josi is the best d on Nashville. He plays (slightly)more minutes than Shea, has more points and a better corsi.

With regards to Faulk, he's a #1 and considerably better than Edler all around.
Risto I think has some growing to do but is a legit #1 IMO, which will be clearer as that ship continues to right itself. Buffalo is in great shape with O'rielly, Eichel and Risto. Really impressed with Murray, guy knows how to build/tank.

Ai-ight.
So, do you really think that all those other listed are TRUE #1s to the same level as Josi?

No but I not all #1's are top-5 guys in the Norris conversation. Faulk has had a pretty imprssive year, before this year I wouldn't have him in htat conversation. Jones/hamiltion/gottobethere aren't there yet.

I should also mentioned the really obvious pick here is Erik Karlson, at 25 years old which is who I thought of when SMB threw this out there.

For those reading now The post started as someone wanting to trade mcann for a #1 D under 25. Like there would be a surplus of them.
I didnt think there would be #1 D under 25. People have pointed out there were a few.

So there is maybe a handful in the entire 700 player catalog, which does go to show its rare. So to the original poster, which of those names do you think you'll get for mcann?
