If NYC had the amount of snow removal equipment we did, proportional to its population, it wouldn't be as big of a deal. The fact that they get maybe one big snowfall a year, it's usually not worth it. It's not the amount of snow that causes these blizzards to shut cities down. It's the inability to clean up at a decent rate.

And make no mistake. At least 90% of our population has no business on the road during a snowfall. The notion that WNYers are great drivers in the snow is one of the biggest myths since Bigfoot.

TBH, I think most get in trouble with the mentality that I'm from Buffalo this is snow. I got this, no need to be cautious.... and boom accident.

Thank god my office is in my house . I make an effort to not travel when we are getting belted. But if have to go out . It amazes how people forget all the laws of physics when driving .

I saw something on facebook that said "Buffalo calls 2 feet of snow a Tuesday" or something like that....and I couldn't help but think that 12 (at the time) people were dead....not exactly the best time to brag about how bad our weather gets

This doesn't answer your question, but whenever people from Buffalo see footage of snow in other cities and cars flying off the road left and right they laugh at it. Call them "idiots". The thing is those people are driving on unsalted/untreated roads. Snowy roads that are totally untreated are brutal to drive on. I left the Northtowns center last week after a lake effect blast of very fluffy snow came down and they hadn't salted yet and good god it was frightening. 4x4 truck was half helpless. It was like pouring cooking oil on a marble floor and trying to walk.
