Rangers should take the break and talk extension with JT Miller before he goes off and wins the Conn Smythe trophy
- jimbro83

Weren't you saying Gorton should extend Kreider to a $25M/5 year deal over the summer?

I think we should hold off on any extensions

hey, how about this for positivity...

in 2010-11, Ryan McDonagh played 38 games for the Wolfpack and had 1 goal and 8 assists.

in 2015-16, Brady Skjei has played 41 games for the Wolfpack and has 3 goals and 16 assists.

Skjei > McDoangh

McDonagh > Slice Bread

Therefore Skjei > slice bread

AV would put sliced bread in the lineup over McIlrath because he hates young players and loves Carbs

It's gonna be nice when we get a 1st for Yandle and Skjei steps in.

I'll say this, as much as we all agree that they need to trade Yandle, I think a prospect deal hurts the Rangers chances this year. I think if the Rangers actually had someone that could snipe those cross ice passes that Yandle makes to the right wing in the offensive zone, then he would have better point totals. Those passes usually lead to another pass, rather than a shot.

that's a great blog up until it poops the bed and goes into the Corsi crap at the end

guaranteed Miller, Kreider and Hayes all being eligible for arbitration is going to cause one of them to get traded before July, and it isn't going to be Miller

Yeah but he doesn't lead with it or make it all about corsi, if the Canadian Dollar stays where it is or drops further the Rangers are going to have some serious consideration about buying out Girardi or Staal, personally I'd look to move Nash's $7.5 first, as for the 3 RFA's it's a tough decision but I'd have to go with trading Hayes....sorry Matt

No doubt. But, I think just like we sometimes don't expect the actual trade that is made at the deadline at the Rangers, we might not expect the move that the Rangers do to open up space.

Also might be good because if all 3 go to arbitration the only one getting a significant raise would be Miller

I am not convinced that one of Hayes, Kreider or Miller will be traded. Indeed, I think that they will all be on the team, and the needed cap relief will come from somewhere else. But, if we are assume that one of them has to go, then I think the Rangers need to analyze the situation over the long term. Each of these guys have gone through stretches where they have been very good, and each of them have gone through stretches where they are not. Right now, Miller is the hot guy. In a month, it could be Hayes or Kreider.

Of course, anybody can be traded on the right deal, but I think the Rangers should be resistant to trading any of these guys (unless they are bringing back youth), because these are the guys that should be a part of their young core.

Thanks for posting it, I tweeted it earlier and was going to include in next blog. Great points and the advanced stats just augment what he wrote.

Start hoping the exchange rate narrows and somehow a Canadian team sneaks into the playoffs, or I could see Bettman lowering the cap substantially.

Isn't it better if a Canadian team doesn't make the playoffs? Canadian teams earn their revenue in Canadian dollars, which means the Canadian playoff revenue would be less than the revenue American teams pull in.
