Leetch was interviewed in that Matteau Matteau special and said he was worried that Claude Lemieux was going to due something dirty to him when the buzzer went off in game 7, then Zelepukin tied it. - jimbro83

Rangers need to help replenish the cupboard by going after every college free agent they can.
yeah for sure I know you would remember that, but I think in general, most Ranger fans think that game ended when Messier scored that goal - jimbro83
Game was only on Sports channel in My area which we didn't have. I listened to the game with my dad and my four brothers, was like a 1930s baseball game. Didn't actually see the game until I bought the Playoff Boxset DVDs

Especially if he is a right handed shot. Rangers have done pretty good in signing these type of free agents.

Something I wish the Islanders took better advantage of. That, and signing the international free agents.
Going on history, it seems like the international UFA's have a better track record. Some of the college UFA's have gotten all hyped up big time and have really failed to impress me.
Ask Kris Draper how honorable Claude Lemieux is. - MidnightMarauder
I saw something a couple of years ago when Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty were interviewed together, talking about how nasty their rivalry was and how they hated each other. Definitely interesting stuff. I still felt like McCarty wanted to get up and kill him.

It's a crap shoot regardless but put in the right scenario these players can turn into good NHL pros.

even just using them to help acquire assets. Like the last time the Rangers signed one, Ryan Haggerty, they used him as the chip they traded to acquire Raanta.

Looking back on that Wings-Avs rivalry, it warmed my heart to it's core when the Wings got their revenge in 1997.
Not that I disliked Sakic, Forsberg, or most of the Avs players, but Lemieux and Roy are d!ckbags and it was great to see Detroit get that upset victory in the 97 conference finals.

With the dearth of soon to be NHL defenders, in the system, plus with the almost certainty of Yandle and Boyle not being here, next season, the Rangers need to address the blueline and urgently at that.

Agreed. Other than taking up 1 of 50 allowed contracts, there is zero downside. As long as you don't handcuff yourself with a long-term deal, you can easily terminate the contract or move him.

I'm glad I was wrong, but ai was sure Philly was winning that Cup in 1997. - B2B76
That brought back a great memory from that year. My buddy and I were at Tumulty's in New Brunswick listening to a traditional Irish band in the basement with the Flyers/ Sabres game on. He being a Flyer fan was watching intently. Things are a bit hazy since he was driving that night, so I'm sure one of you will correct me. Think it was near the end of the 3rd and there was either a breakaway or penalty shot, and just as he's ready to pull the trigger the channel changed. He stood there stunned while I ran upstairs to get the game back on, and the bartender says,"Oh, you were watching that? Sorry." He finally finds the game after scrolling through every channel. By that time it was obvious he didn't score. I think the Flyers won that game, but I could be mistaken. I can't remember who had the puck.
