he has 27 points in 23 games this year

tropp had 42 points in 37 games his last year

- homiedclown

Not sure it's a fair comparison, on ice play aside Fasching plays big 10 and tropp playe ccha.

Did you watch the game last night? Does Ristolainen look as good with Bogosian as he did with Gorges? Enlighten me.

I would like to see Weber with Risto for just 1 game with the way he has played lately. What could it hurt? I know that it isnt ever going to happen but i would just be curious on how he would handle it.

He didn't. Neither one of Bogosian or Gorges has been better for Ristolainen. Any offensive or defensive success has been the result of his own player growth. But he has shown struggles with both players.

I disagree. Gorges takes bad penalties often. But with Risto they were an effective pair. Risto was not struggling with Gorges, that is false.

To CoHo,
Weber is playing well and I am always sticking up for him. I like him, want to resign him and all that. But in the past there is a trend where when he is given too many minutes his game suffers. I would like to see Pysyk given more minutes and Gorges back with Ristolainen. They were fine together, there was no reason to change that pairing.

Girgensons + Lemieux?

Honesty, I would have had no issues offer sheeting Saad either. He looks like a consistent 25-30 goal guy that plays 2-ways. He's also 23. I'd have no problem with him instead of one of the Finns.

- sbroads24

That is definitely more in the ballpark, especially with Girgensons salary.

Probably would have wanted another prospect aside from Lemiuex and a pick as well.

Difficult to say.

Offer sheeting him and losing the pick this year, not that it would have been as high as it looks like it will be now, would have been much like the O'Reilly trade where they are trading young guys for proven young NHL talent.

In the end, I don't think Chicago would have caved to an offer sheet and they would have worked a trade.

I also don't think Buffalo would have been able to match what Columbus gave them, not that I thought Anisimov is some great center at the time.

Defensively, they've absolutely had their struggles. His positives are a result of his own play, nothing to do with what Gorges or Bogo have done.

To me, it is even more impressive what he has done based on his partners this year, as none of them have performed that well.

How much more effective is Risto going to be with someone that has the talent to hang with everything he can do?

Excited to hopefully find that out.

Not because Weber is one of my favorites but it could be said, he has outplayed everyone other Sabre dman in the defensive zone this year and at the blue line especially, where he is famous for tattooing puck carriers.
I'd like to see Weber given a 1.5 to 2 mill per for 3 years.
But hey, that's just me.

Ding Ding. It looks bleak now, but we'll be shocked how much better this team is if they can add just one more top pairing guy. The trickle down effect alone will make it better.

Technically speaking he has. Problem of course is he's playing far less minutes and against far easier competition.

Am I the only one that is sick of Kane taking the puck all the way up the left wing with blazing speed only to just shoot high and wide or curl around the back of the net and create a turnover?
- Sabre_Tooth

Hes the only Sabre that posseses blazing speed, at least.

That isn't wrong. The way it's worded makes it sound to me like Weber should be getting more ice time, more responsibility, and better competition since he can handle it.

We know what we get from Weber. A 3rd pairing guy who can bring some physicality and will take a bad penalty once in a while. Let's give him that credit

He does have wheels. My favorite play from him was against Colorado where we were trapped in our end and he came up with the puck after playing D for a while and beat the defender in a race and got a chance.

He does need to make the smarter play more often. He's got the tools, just needs to put it together.

If Kane, Girgensons, and Ennis could all collectively get it together and play how they are capable (Girgensons looked great last night) we would be in a better spot. But we'll Finnish last for the Finnish kids.

I remember a discussion before the season started where a few posters guaranteed we would be better than the Leafs.
- sbroads24

So this season ends now, in January? Holy poop, have some patience. I want to win now but jeez, our future Cup raiser recently turned 19 goddamn years old. The beloved Jets are close to being blown up, the highly thought of Jackets are worse than us, Saad and all, and John Scott is in the ASG....lots of things can happen.

girgenson is every bit as advertised. wins the majority of puck battles and rarely turns the puck over. Just has no flash.

Girgensons has enough offensive talent to put up more than 3 goals before yesterday, new role and all. He showed it again yesterday that he can put the puck in the net. If he can shut down like he has been and score a good 15-20 a year he's as advertised. Otherwise you traded up in the draft in the 1st round for a 3rd line center.

I like him and like his game when it's on, but secondary scoring is a need and he's one of the ones that we look to for that. He'll get there.

Obviously the rumors were true.. He's going to be gone at the trade deadline I'm sure
- gerbe75pts

I haven't read all the comments, but what the hell are you talking about? He's injured, so obviously the rumors are true? Did I miss something? If I did I apologize, but that really makes not sense.

Leafs are better (slightly) now, and have Marner, Nylander, Kapanen all up and coming. Are we sure we are just going to cruise to cup contention?
- sbroads24

We need to find a gem or two in the later rounds like other teams seem to find. Gaudreau, Toffoli, Josi, Barrie these guys are out there but what do the Sabres ever find and develop, Marcus Foligno? We can't build a team completely on top 5 picks, it will never get done, just ask the Oilers and the Islanders. Pegula is paying a lot for our scouting staff and giving them everything they need to do the job. It's time to see some results with all the picks we've been making recently.

Eichel, Girgensons, Ennis, and Gionta can flat out fly when he wants to, maybe not for a whole game, but there are times when he looks like his hair's on fire.

Gionta has lost a step. He can never get around the d. I agree with the others on your list.

Agreed. It's almost the opposite as the previous regime.

Darcy drafted Miller, Pommer, Roy, and a few others in the later rounds, but missed on some 1sts

Still want to see Pysyk with Risto for a bit. I'm going to keep saying it just like I did about Eichel and Girgensons together until it happened.
