Look man, I like Hamhuis as much as anyone he's a great guy. But he's lost a step and is less effective than he was a few years ago. On some teams (like ours) he's top 4, but on some he isn't and he's only declining. If he went to Chicago for teurovienen you wouldn't hear me complaining, or Dallas for a pick... I'd love to see him win. But facts are facts, his numbers are declining. - neem55
I wasnt implying He's a "Top Dman" He's just being hindered by his surrounding players IMHO.
But yes he is on the decline, but definitely servicable top four guy. |

I dont think so. and I think you missed a bit there. You're usually in either D or O zone at any given time. If we are hemmed in D zone we cant be in O zone now can we? So given we are in D zone way too much it greatly reduces O zone time, right?
Maybe I should post a link to Kings positional play - SMBDragon
I haven't missed anything. I agree the breakout is bad. What LA does is get the puck deep and keep it there. This is a result of the breakout soemtimes, neutralzone coverage, forecheck, faceoffs- a number of variables, which you are reducing to one and I refuse to see it that way. |

going to the conference finals and losing is a competetive team. - neem55
When did we make the conference final? I only remember going past round two once in the last ten years that was 2011 |

you're right, but I think losing to Chicago in the second round twice, those were years when we were a very successful and competitive team and those are my favorite series that I've ever watched. This is what I was referring to, but you're right we only made it to the conference finals the one time against SJ and beat them to go on. |

the first article is about how LA forechecks well and has great neutral zone coverage.
Edit: The second one however is quite informative and supports your opinion quite a bit. I've been saying #pumpkinforChychrun all year, tahnks for the share that was a good read. |

I did enjoy the battles the first two series against the Hawks but we did get owned. The only successful playoff year in the last 10 years is 2011

AV got outcoached and schooled by coach Q and scotty bowman both years for an identical result. 4-2...with 4 straight on us. They gave us 2 games to learn our system then exploited every crack in the system. Av never learned from it either.
It was ALMOST 3 straight years had burrows not scored in OT in game 7.
My god I want to FINALLY have a playoff coach in Vancouver someday. |

Regular season yes. Didnt translate afterwards unfortunately.
Makes me sad what could have happened if we actually had a goalies in the glory days of the WCE.
Cloutier............. PFFFFFF.
2011 was a damn good team. But definitely lost to a better stronger team.
I just pray I see a cup hear before I die. |

Against a team that we were right there with and went on to lose in the SCF the one year and win the next? Yes. Yes I do.
Vantel can say we got owned in those series all he wants, but they were extremely close and competitive games. We can see how close when Canucks finally came out and beat them in 7 in another very competitive and close third series. |

I agree AV got outcoached. I hope so too, but those were competitive series against what was(is) the best team in hockey. |

look at the topic...it says right in the title..."the secret to LA success, the breakout"
If we applied that to our team we'd be winning more games. But instead we have a D coach without a clue on how to exit a zone, so we are stuck with the suck and no personnel changes will make that change long term. |
