not really just americans being americans i'm pretty sure people were pissed off at our forefathers

Yes, but our forefathers were elite. Taking over a wildlife refuge building in rural Oregon? That is not elite.

I wonder how much other GM's would value the chance to dump their dead weight on the Flyers so they can free up cap space for themselves for the stretch run... Flyers currently are projected to be able to absorb ~$8-9M worth of driftwood.

Ohlund, Ott, Torres, Khudobin, Backstrom (G), Bickell, Kindl, etc?

as long as they are UFAs I would totally be down with taking on stiffs for the rest of he season for assets. be nice to see the Flyers on that side of a trade

I thought Weal did a decent job and want to see more of him. He had no shot to make it in LA with the talent they have but to not get a shot here has to make him mad. I just want more speed and skill in the lineup. I liked a few shifts Weal/Laughton had together.

I know Laughton hasn't exactly lit it up and has not been good defensively but throwing him out with 20/89 and all that means is more 76-78-25 than we should see *sigh*.

It is curious that Manning (and I don't hate him like most) gets plenty of ice time when he plays but Weal can't get into the lineup and Laughton gets such little ice time. I know Hakstol is there to win and not develop kids but there comes a point when it would be nice to see kids get a real look

- nastyflyergirl

I understand wanting to "play with the new toy" so to speak but I really don't get the level of consternation and hand wringing that he hasn't played much yet. A guy like Weal doesn't get to just show up and go immediately into the lineup.

I feel the same.

I understand they are still technically fighting for the playoffs but I don't understand how Weal is less effective then Umberger, Vandevelde or White. Read sat a game because they wanted more. Schultz and Vandevelde are immune to the scratch. Just tough right now until guys are moved and the roster transitions more.

I for one thought Weal made some very nice plays that warranted another look. Except for forcing RJ to go offsides. He should've known better than to make a skill play. RJ forgets what that is sometimes....
- Mononoke

I don't even care anymore. Whatever will be will be. Keep playing Umberger & his structure.

Can't score, can't drive possession, but he's one Hell of an adequate defender.

I'd like to see somebody who can create offense go in over Umberger. Be it Weal, be it the mediocre Gagner, be it Cousins, whomever.

He doesn't.

But Weal is and AHL point per game player and playoff MVP. He has showed skill and speed at the AHL level.

White, Vandevelde and UMberger are what they are. I would rather see if the potential is there on a skilled player over the KNOWN fact of a mucker.

As long as they don't have future years on their deals, why not? They'd have to make roster space though.

I don't like Ellis at all.
- nastyflyergirl

Samesies. He comes off as arrogant and it's a shame because I really like Harry Mayes. But I can't stand Ellis so I don't listen to their show.

I'd go as far as to consider guys w/ a bit of term, like Bickell and Kindl.

Bickell is terrible, but he's only got a year left, and I think he's at least an improvement over RJ and/or White. Maybe the 'Hawks give up a bit more if the Flyers take him.

Kindl, I think he could actually be a worthy reclamation. Let him take over Medvedev's roster spot.

Creating offense is the most overrated part of hockey in my mind. I'm all about creating defense. I'm talking about a biblical creation amount of defense. 6 days of creating defense, and on the 7th day...more defense. God clearly wasn't a hockey player -- hockey players don't rest when there are shots to be blocked.

Right. There are many options which is why I don't get the Weal crush.

Because there are many options. I just don't see the travesty of justice in not playing Weal that some folks here do.

when the team is losing and has a real need for more speed and skill, I would like a different look. and when a team is playing a guy(s) who are basically ineffective, I would like to see someone else given a chance. if he bombs, then so be it.

too bad Sharp wasn't given a shot here. Not saying Weal is Sharp. not saying Weal or any of the prospects I want to see will be anything. I just would like to see kids given a shot

I like Cousins but his skating isn't a speedster. I think Weal is a better skater. Cousins is probably more aggressive.

But after the deadline I hope some dead weight is moved and places open up for some of our younger players. Unless the Phantoms are in a playoff race
