The way I understand it, it's less about Weal, and more about giving something else a try.

true but if someone is offering you a 7th for umberger you take it and move someone up if needed - 2Real

Because there are many options. I just don't see the travesty of justice in not playing Weal that some folks here do. - Scoob
Well no, I have no reason to throw any additional weight behind him over other guys. But the fact he's here and can't be waived kinda puts him at the forefront though as an available/immediate option. |

Yeah.
I am sorry. I thought the Phantoms were a little closer then where they are to the playoffs. - J35Bacher
I only happened to know where they were in the standings because I was thinking about heading up there if they had a home game this weekend (they do on Friday and they are on the road the rest of the weekend).
They are not a good team: http://www.phantomshockey...om/team/league-standings/ |

My point, again, is that there are many options for change and when I see posters flipping out that Weal specifically isn't in the lineup I scratch my head in wonder because he's not "the answer" to any Flyers question. He's just a change, as would be Cousins or any of the other options. Some posters are acting like it's Gretzky not able to crack the lineup. - Scoob
No one thinks Weal is the messiah here. He could be a decent NHL player, he might be a tweener. Wouldn't shock me to see either. It's not even entirely about Weal, the player. It's about Weal, the idea: giving a young unproven guy a chance over an old known. That's why we are bummed after seeing a more or less solid first game in a month with a new team backed up by a scratching, while Teflon players are continually iced. |

well unless Gagner is sent back down, the options to go in are Weal and Weal. he is the 13th forward right now. He is the player on the roster. want to give Cousins, Leier or anyone else a shot, awesome, send someone down. Just makes sense to see what Weal can do given he is on the roster and isn't going to be sent down. I'm so over seeing Umberger. I am sick of seeing a third line that is an OK 4th line at best on most teams. 20-21-89?

and old known that hasn't scored in over a yr. and old know that brings very little outside of having size. I liked RJ a lot his first go around. He seems like a good guy but come on, enough |

iirc, RJ's last goal was 1/27/15, so he still has tonight's game in hand before it's officially been over year.

I would feel the same way if one Scott Laughton wasn't in that bottom-six getting taken along for the nightly reaming. |

Yeah, they're not that close. They started off well, but regressed a bit. Which is fine, they have a lot of guys without much pro experience, and their top blueline weapon is giving Flyers' fans at least one reason to watch every night. They'll have to make a big push if they want to make it. |

know what? I am very patient about the season. I mean, while I want to see them make the playoffs and win, I am more than accepting of the direction Hextall is taking the organization. I am accepting of another non playoff season which is probably going to happen. but I just would like to see young players get a chance when the status quo is just bad. |

losing Laughton and Ghost to the Flyers and various injuries certainly didn't help their chances |

Would also like to see those young players being put in a position to succeed/develop. Asking a 20-yo to carry the corpse of RJ Umberger around is a tough thing to do.
I guess it kind of opens up the debate about whether this team should be prioritizing winning the next game over long-term goals/development right now. I'm a firm believer that it should be the latter. |
