Every angle you look at this game from adds up to a loss. I just want the Flyers to play a good game, and compete. If they lose because they're playing a better team, so be it. Don't play poorly, take bad penalties, etc. - MJL
I feel this way about every game. I can handle the Flyers losing, but I am sick and tired of the Jekyll and Hyde every single year. Sure every team has its ups and down, but consistency is what matters to me. |

Imagine if Jagr didn't spend 3 years in Russia - Jsaquella
I mean you gotta think he'd be a lock for #2. That's 145+ points right there, conservatively, provided he's not hurt.
It's really (frank)ing cool |

Yes Flyers will be on the hook for $2.25mm. Better than $4.5mm for 2 and better than the 4 year cap hit on a buy out - Jsaquella
Really hope he retires but if not, it's still 2nd to best case scenario. I know Hextall didn't want to retain any salary but let's be honest, that wasn't realistic to move him. Plus we got Weal and a pick out of the deal too. L Schenn was as good as gone, maybe we could have gotten a better value in a solo trade, but we had to throw something in to move that contract.
I do think he retires though. He handled the situation here with class and I don't see him going back on his word. Maybe working with the Kings on a termination and restructure or look to sign a different deal somewhere else, but I'd bet he gets the Kings and Flyers off the hook for those next 2 years of the cap hit. |

I know I was thinking that too. I know he didn't have the greatest time in Washington, but he was still around his peak. |

As much as I agree with most posters on here that the bottom six, especially Umberger, have not been contributing lately and that the PK is costing them wins/points, some of the guys on the back end have been terrible in recent games. Gudas' play IMHO has been significantly worse than most of his counterparts...the icing in Toronto which cost the Flyers at least a point, two turnovers along the wall leading to the Bruins winning goal, constantly trying to make a big hit and taking himself out of position. To say that he's a top pairing defenseman is symptomatic of the lack of depth on this team and is what I see as the major problem moving forward. - aantny88
Well, we knew that about the defense before the season even started. Gudas has had some rough moments lately, but this season, hard to complain about what he's given the Flyers for the cost, and the responsibilities he's been handed. |

I suspect he'll have that same facial expression when they win the Cup in a few years. I think that's just how he is.

Not much word on why he was 'limping heavily" after the last game.

It's hard to imagine this ending any way but ugly. Still, walking away with a loss tonight leaves a seven point climb after the break. Not good, especially knowing how they play after breaks. |

The Ghost-Medvedev pairing was kind of all over the place, but I would try this ahead of playing Manning.
MDZ-Gudas

The top two pairings have played well together this season for the most part, and the 3rd pairing has our two best offensive dmen. |

I'd bet barring injury, he would be over 2000pts at this point. - hockeylover
I did some quick calculations a while back, using a 3-year moving average before and after his time spent in Russia as averages for those seasons (I think it averaged out to like 35 goals a year) as well as correcting for the 12/13 time lost, and he had well over 700 goals, but I don't know about points. |

There's only one reason why the Flyers even have a remote chance, that's because they have some games in hand over a few teams. Otherwise, it would be over. It's amazing how things work, the Flyers had a really good stretch and compiled good point totals, and it was a climb at a snails pace, to the get closer to the team ahead of them. Lose a few games in a row, and you drop like a rock. |

I could be wrong or maybe I misunderstood, but I thought there had to be an agreement reached before the trade would take place? Vinny may change his mind, but even handshake agreements have some weight in possible legal recourse. |

I don't think Jags quits til he gets to #2 in points and #2 in goals. Both, honestly, are attainable. Albeit pts moreso than goals.
60ish away from both goals and points. He could put up 60 pts next season. 60 goals might take 3-4. He has it in him...I want to see it. |

I don't think there's anything in writing, but I wouldn't worry about it. The Kings will need every cent of the cap to sign other guys so I think Vinny will either retire or terminate his contract to sign somewhere else. And if for some reason he doesn't, the Flyers can easily deal with a $2.25m penalty for two years. |

Yeah, the worst case scenario for the Flyers now is still much better than the most of the scenarios they faced before the trade. The only way it would have been better for the Flyers is if Vinny retired without a trade-which I view as unlikely-or if he had agreed to a mutual buy out.
Vinny going back on his word would hurt LA far more than the Flyers. I agree that Vinny isn't likely to do that. He's a good guy and a pro. He knows LA gave him a shot to go out on his skates and he probably appreciates it. |

I also wonder with Lemieux (sp?) if he didn't retire for 3 seasons or have as many injuries/cancer what his final point total would have been.
I think Lindros would have finished in the 1500-1700 range too. |
