I see the same. They are building from the back out. I really think Murphy and Lappy are on thin ice. Mullen not so much.
- dragonoffrost

Yeah, Mullen has a long record of great success coaching the PP, before this down season.

The other guys not so much.

The asst coaches and Hak is going to handle them this summer will be interesting. There's no excuse for the poor special teams

He's not close to being an ineffective player

I hope he plays til he's 50

- Just5

The guy is a freak of nature. He's so committed to fitness he might make it to 50 and not be out there just coasting. I wonder what the record is for seasons played (I won't include Gordie Howe playing a game every now and then).

I don't think there's anything in writing, but I wouldn't worry about it. The Kings will need every cent of the cap to sign other guys so I think Vinny will either retire or terminate his contract to sign somewhere else. And if for some reason he doesn't, the Flyers can easily deal with a $2.25m penalty for two years.
- Feanor

Not saying it would happen, but I could easily see the Flyers make the case that an oral agreement took place that Vinny would retire after the year, there is even written acknowledgement from his agent. No matter what Vinny has a contract and will be paid, but the Flyers could go the route that LA takes the full cap hit.

That'll never happen. If Lecavalier doesn't retire, Flyers are stuck with half the cap hit. I don't think that's going to happen though.

Part of it is the coaching but the personnel isn't outstanding either...Coots and Read seem to be fairly effective on the PK and contribute at even strength. Giroux wins tons of faceoffs, so that is a huge help on the PK as well. Not really sure what PEB and VDV are contributing...they certainly aren't getting it done on the PK and don't finish at even strength.

Ya know, he's right though. Don't know if you're messing around or not, but he's right.

Sitting around feeling sorry about how you're playing does nothing. So stop moping and fix that poop. Or at least try. This team can only do so much

I also wonder with Lemieux (sp?) if he didn't retire for 3 seasons or have as many injuries/cancer what his final point total would have been.

I think Lindros would have finished in the 1500-1700 range too.

A case can be made for Lemieux, I'm sure.

Yeah, the total for Lindros may be a little to pie in the sky.

Babcock or Bowman says the exact same thing and it would be "best coach ever"

I see Hak as a no nonsense guy. Do your job and you get rewarded. Kinda why I think he's sticking with Umberger so much. He does what Hak requests so he plays, as much as it drives us all nuts. He's a boss you like to have as long as you don't slack.

Chelios played 26 seasons, would have been 27 if not for 04/05. If you count the WHA, Howe has the record.

Too, too, too!!!

But yeah, Lindros could maybe have pushed for top-10, but top-20 would be more likely. Not that there's anything wrong with being one of the top-20 players of all-time.

On a related note, Ovechkin is poised to make a real run at 800+

That's what I hoped he would be, but then he keeps increasing Ryan White's SH ice time despite the fact he's objectively terrible at killing penalties, and we have other options like Raffl, Read and Laughton sitting on the bench. Which is nonsensical.

Unlike most people, I'm not nearly as worried about the 9 minutes or less he gives Umberger. That's not what's killing the Flyers playoff chances. It's the PK.

I was hoping the Panthers were playing in Philly again, as it would be nice to see him live. Maybe in the playoffs...

Read averages more ice time per game on the PK than White does. White is 6th among forwards in SH icetime per game. Last game, White got more time than Read, but often in a game it comes down to timing, of what player was on the ice in a previous shift, and players can get caught out on an extended shift on the PK.

I'd like to see Raffl added to the rotation also. I agree that they should make some personnel changes on the PK.
