And Larkin is legit, but plays with Zetterberg? Tell me Eichel does not have twice as many points if he plays with Zetterberg every game. Larkin does some great things too, not trying to knock him (too hard, haha). - Lilroot9
I agree. This whole class is very good and above average. Eichel has also just turned 19, these other guys are alot older had AHL or more college/junior time as well.
Again i don't think Eichel has it or deserves it (yet) but i think it is a closer race then most realize. |

If Eichel is centering Kane, how many points do you think he has at this point in the season? - CoHo_to_B-Lo
Kane has 73 points so far...
So maybe like 50 for Eichel?
Panarin has 46 so far... |

Where the team sits in the standings has something to do with it as well. Unfortunately Detroit and Chicago are in much better positions, and are talked about more |

You think playing with a guy with 73 points compared to guys with 10-15 points that he has been playing with only gives him a bump of 14 points? |

Eichel has been a beast this year and sometimes is hidden in the game, but puts the game on his back when its late in the game and we are down, is able to single handily put the team back in the game.
As far as rookie of the year, I hope they dont just take the guy with the highest stats, but the guy who should be the rookie of the year. Not saying that is Eichel, but having an all world all star on your line helps your stats quite a bit, Eichel does not have that linemate. - Lilroot9
Panarin is 24, Eichel is 19
Panarin plays with Chicago currently second in the league, Eichel plays with Buffalo currently second last in the league
Panarin has been playing on line with Kane, Eichel's been playing with Gionta
Anybody who doesn't factor this in when choosing who should be the Calder winner should have their head examined. I'm not saying that Eichel should be the guy to win rookie of the year because there's a lot of rookies doing well this year. But, Panarin should be way down on the list, he's had too many advantages over the rest of the group.

I am clearly biased toward Eichel, but even looking at the numbers he is putting up, for being the youngest and a center (McDavid comes in here depending on how well he plays the rest of the year) and no solid line mates, but his plus minus is bad. That is another product of line mates. Sure he has work to do in defensive zone, but a center is key there and being a young center, it is excusable. The others have vertrans on their line to do that work.
I just dont want the points stat to give the award away, that is all. |

Panarin will win, and I'm ok with that.

Yes he is a rookie, that is not there the entire game. Kane does know how to get open and put the puck away so maybe a little higher? I dont want to overvalue his play either. He did have those 15 games where he was floating through. |

Panarin played 263 games in the KHL and 51 in it's minor leagues over parts of 7 seasons prior to this year. I don't really think of him as being a full rookie...

Agreed 100%. Should be a three way race with Eichel, Larkin and Domi

Another thing to consider is that Eichel should easily have an extra 10 assists at the minimum looking at the beginning of the season and all the missed opportunities by his linemates. They weren't adjusted to his skill set and I think you're now seeing them finally elevating their game when they play with him. |

I agree, but the rule is two connective years of 10+ games or 40 games in nhl. So he is a "rookie".
When looking at the stats of Larkin, I was surpirsed to see his line mates stats, he is a +24 ?(!!!!!) what? Pretty good I would say... |
